Our founder, Pastor Ernie Frye, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday night. He fought a hard battle with dementia for several years. If you see this picture on our MCA page, then this man has touched your life. We are forever grateful for his legend and legacy!

Steps to finding your child’s reading level…

When your child is reading at their correct reading level, they will enjoy it more. When books are too challenging, kids are prone to be discouraged and give up. Books that are too easy don't help kids grow in their ability.

Follow these steps to find books at the right level for your child.

1. Find out your child’s measured reading level.
👉We can help you with this at Read Smart!

2. Look for books that match that level.
👉Most kid books have their level right on the cover or spine.

3. Do a five-fingers vocabulary check.
👉Ask your child to hold up five fingers while they read one page of a book. Put a finger down each time they are unable to pronounce a word. If all five fingers are down at the end of the page, the book is too hard.

4. Do a quick comprehension check.
👉Ask your child to pause after reading a few pages and tell you in their own words what they just read. This will help you see if they really understood what they are reading.
