Focus Verse: Genesis 1:1 in Mandarin & ASL
You and your child are welcome to come worship, memorize Scripture, and participate in language learning activities in Mandarin Chinese. Sign language will be partially incorporated as a “bridge” between English and Mandarin. Children of all ages are welcome.

Meet Anne Yang (see first photo), assistant educator at Bilingual Foundations. Yang is from a small town in Northern China called TieLing, near ShenYang City. Yang has lived internationally since 2010, working, traveling and studying abroad in South Korea, Israel and the United States. She has acquired fluency in English, Korean, and Chinese, and is proficient in Japanese. Yang obtained a bachelors of science psychology at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul. She moved to Ashland, Ohio, in August of 2019, where she obtained a Masters of Education and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Ashland University. Yang’s teaching experience includes 7 years private tutoring of Mandarin and English. Her passion is linguistic education and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Meet Shelby Justice (see second photo), founder of Bilingual Foundations. Justice is from Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved abroad to Chongqing, China in November 2012, and continued studying and working intermittently there until April 2017. During that time, Justice spent four semesters solely dedicated to Mandarin language studies at Sichuan International Studies University and Chongqing Technology and Business Institute. She has taught English as a second language in Chinese classrooms and homes. Justice holds a bachelor of science history degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. Her and her husband settled in Ashland, OH in the summer of 2018. The Justice family has since been blessed with three children. Justice raises her children bilingually, and enjoys teaching other children to worship God in Mandarin.

Did you know that language development begins in the womb? In fact, the period from birth to age 6 is considered the “sensitive period” for language learning. Children have the potential to effortlessly absorb their native language and become a fluent speaker of foreign language. Learning two languages at an early age prepares children for a lifetime of opportunity, as well as the capacity for higher IQ and enhanced critical thinking skills. Through bilingual interaction and sensory play, Bilingual Foundations offers children the opportunity to simultaneously develop English language skills and Mandarin Chinese in a safe and nurturing environment. Bilingual Foundations seeks to inspire the love of God and the love of language within the littlest of children.
