🇺🇸 Patriot Day — September 11 🇺🇸

Today we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who ran toward the danger. We keep them in our prayers. 🙏

And we celebrate the patriots right here in our own building.

Our Headmaster, Mr. Scott Osborn, served 8 years (2 years active- 4 years reserve- 2 years inactive ready reserve) in the United States Marine Corps. When that chapter closed, another opened — first in the classroom shaping young minds, and now leading Holy Family, the oldest school in Eastern Kentucky. 🎓

Semper Fidelis means "always faithful." Hard to think of a better description of a man who has given his life to service: to his country, to his students, and to his faith.

The Brick Brigade at Holy Family is in need of lego bricks. If your kids have outgrown a set, or there's a bin of loose pieces in the closet, we'll take them!

Sets don't need to be complete and nothing needs to be sorted. Just drop donations off at the front office.

Celebrating Our Shepherd and School Leader — Fr. Andrew Garner 🍀

At Holy Family, we're blessed to have a pastor who is also a true leader for our school family.

The Very Reverend Andrew Canon Garner, KHS, has served as our pastor since June 2018 — and he came home to do it. A native son of Ashland, Kentucky, Father Garner is a graduate of the University of Kentucky who worked for the Hyatt Corporation and served as Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs in UK's College of Dentistry before answering the call to the priesthood. That background in education still shows in the way he invests himself into our school.

Ordained on May 26, 2001, Father completed his formation and graduate studies at Saint Meinrad Seminary, with time spent studying in Rome, Mexico, and the Middle East. Today he also serves the Diocese of Lexington as Director of the Permanent Diaconate in Spanish, and he is a member of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre.

In his own words, he considers it "a great blessing and privilege" to minister in his hometown area among family and friends.

🇮🇪 And there's more good news: Father Garner is leading a pilgrimage to Ireland in honor of our school's Irish heritage! Walking the land of saints and scholars together — what a gift for our community.

Thank you, Father, for shepherding our parish, our school, and our students with such joy.

Enjoy the long weekend with your families — and a thank you to all the parents, grandparents, and parishioners whose hard work supports our school every day.

☘️ A Day in the Life at Holy Family Middle/High School Student☘️
7:45 a.m. — Drop-off on Wi******er. If you get lucky, you'll get a high five from one of the second graders. Where else does that happen to a middle schooler?

8:00 a.m. — Phone drop off, prayer, announcements, and the whole school walks over to Mass.

Morning — Middle schoolers along with freshman and sophomores are on the move: math, science, social studies, English, Spanish. Meanwhile the juniors and seniors are knocking out actual college coursework through ACTC.

Lunch — Small enough that everybody knows everybody. Loud enough that you'd never guess our class sizes average 10 students.

Afternoon — Sneakers squeaking in the gym for conditioning down one hall, paint drying in the art room down the other. Both count as school here. ☘️

3:00 p.m. — The gym fills up. Volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, middle schoolers running drills right where the varsity squad just was. GO IRISH ☘️🏀🏐
