One of our December 2024 graduates missed May Commencement due to a flight issue, so the departmental faculty held a virtual celebration with her.

The Ashland University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was well-represented at the 2025 Ashland University College of Arts & Sciences URCA Symposium, with 36 students giving 15 oral presentations and 7 poster presentations.

Ashland University mathematics minors Megan C**n and Grace McCullough gave presentations this weekend at the Trisection (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky) meeting of the Mathematical Association of America. Five additional students participated in the student team competition.

Thanks to Ed Sarkel, Lisa Welch, Chris Fichtner, Selva Shanmugam, Yong Ju Lee, Chris & Linda Swanson and one anonymous donor for making donations totaling $460 of our $1000 goal. Dr. Selva Shanmugam, Emily Murray and Jules Papesh, participated in the Ohio Celebration of Women in Computing 2025 conference February 21-22 in Huron, Ohio. Dr. Shanmugam gave a professional talk entitled “Glaucoma Detection and Classification.” Emily and Jules presented their project “Grim Gestures: Bringing Game Design and Machine Learning Together for a Sign-Language Learning Experience."
