In honor of Black History Month, this week’s comes from Harriet Tubman✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Harriet Tubman was a powerhouse of activism during the 1800’s. She was active in the abolitionist movement and even helped to rescue 70 people from slavery— after she escaped slavery herself. Tubman even served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army!
Despite all of the hardships she experienced in her life, she never gave up hope in what she believed in. 💪🏾
History has come along way since then, but even some 150+ years later, we all can take so much from her wisdom and determination.

📚THIS WEEK 🍎: Remember your “why”. Remember that you are where you once dreamed of being. Look how far you’ve gotten!

Not only is it Monday, but it is also President’s Day! With that in mind, this week’s comes from the 44th president of the United States of America, Barack Obama! 🇺🇸
Barack Obama made history as the FIRST African American to be elected as the president… only SIXTEEN years ago. Not only did his presidency bring HUGE strides for African Americans, but it also brought the U.S. a surge of educational advocacy. 🍎📚
During his presidency, the Obama administration worked avidly to improve the quality of American schools, as well as prioritizing the future of our children! 🌟
Throughout , we often look at historical figures from hundreds of years ago. Barack Obama’s presidency goes to show us that there is still history to be made! And history we will make! ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
Much like Obama would tell us, we ARE the future, and we have the ability to make it a better place for the generations after us. ❤️

Today's Monday Motivation comes from Marian Wright Edelman, a civil rights and children rights activist. Edelman became the FIRST African Woman to be admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1964 -- the mandatory association required for Mississippians to become lawyers. She founded and serves as president of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF), directed the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund office in Jackson, Mississippi, has received over a hundred honorary degrees and awards including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize, the Heinz Award, a MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship, and even a Presidential Medal of Freedom!
Let us follow in her footsteps and work towards creating a better future through education!

A HUGE shoutout to Sarah Levy of for gracing us with her presence and wisdom. We learned so much about women in the Holocaust that resonated in us all. AU Aspiring Educators are so honored to have been given this opportunity to learn a side of history that is often unheard.
