🎙️ NEW EPISODE!! 🎙️

Ever feel like you need the perfect plan before you can start anything? This conversation might change that.
In this episode of The Discomfort Zone Podcast, Anna sits down with Chris Baer, a raft guide and whitewater kayaker who lives half the year out of a converted school bus and spends his winters chasing first descents in remote corners of the world, often with little more than two weeks’ notice.

This conversation is for anyone who’s ever held back because they didn’t have it all figured out yet.

Anna and Chris dig into:
🌫️ Why whitewater is “all gray,” and how letting go of rigid rules opens up better decisions

🧩 How problem-solving on the fly becomes a way of life, on the river and off

✈️ What happens when you trade a five-year plan for two weeks’ notice and a plane ticket

👣 Why getting feet on the ground beats overanalyzing every detail in advance

If you’re craving more confidence in navigating the unknown, this one’s worth a listen.

Time flies when you’re having fun! 🌊

Anyone else ever go out for quick session of your favorite hobby and lose track of time? 🤪

06/11/2026

Community doesn’t just show up for you. You show up for it. 🌊

The question worth asking before you walk into any room — virtual or otherwise — is not “what am I going to get out of this?” It’s “what am I bringing?”

That’s the foundation of real trust. Real connection. Real community.

The MBP Community is full of women who get that. Come be one of them. 💙

If you want to get better at playboating, the Ottawa River needs to be on your list. 🌊

Here’s why:
🌊 The features are world class. The Ottawa has some of the most consistent, forgiving, and fun playboating waves and holes anywhere in the world — perfect for learning.

🌊 It’s the perfect place to build real confidence. Big enough to push you. Forgiving enough to let you try things, fall, and try again without consequence.

🌊 The community is electric. Playboaters from around the world come to paddle the Ottawa — the energy alone will make you want to throw moves you’ve never tried before.

🌊 You’ll leave a different paddler. That’s just what the Ottawa does.

Come find out for yourself. 💙

I’m done empowering women…

After 25 years of building a brand around “empowering women,” I’m retiring the phrase.

Not because the mission changed. Because the language stopped being honest enough.

🎙️ In this week’s solo episode, I share the perspective shift that stopped me in my tracks — sparked by the book Start With Yourself by Emma Grede The question I kept coming back to: does “empowerment” quietly suggest that women need someone else to give them what they already have?

This episode isn’t about tearing down a movement. It’s about getting more precise about what great coaching, instruction, and community actually do — create the container, hold the space, and trust that the person in front of you already has what it takes.

I also talk about what a year-long recovery from a herniated disc taught me about inner strength, how to hold an idea you’ve outgrown with honesty and self-compassion, and why changing your language is an act of courage — not correction.

If you’ve ever wrestled with a belief that served you well and then stopped, or you’re mid-shift in how you see your own work — this one will give you something worth sitting with.

The second Performance Lab of 2026 is coming up in two weeks — and this one is about something almost every paddler I've ever coached has wrestled with.

🧠 Negative self-talk.

Not the general kind. The specific voice that shows up right before a hard rapid, a new move, or anything that asks something of you. The one that says "not today — you're not ready" and sounds so convincing you almost always believe it.

Here's what I know after 30 years of coaching paddlers on whitewater: that voice doesn't always go away with more experience or more time on the water. It adapts. It finds new material. And it keeps running until you understand what's actually driving it.

🗓️ On June 22nd we're going there. Why the inner critic is so persistent, what your nervous system has to do with it, and how to interrupt it in real time — on the water and off. You'll leave with tools you can actually use, not just concepts to think about.

75 minutes. Live on Zoom. $27 to register, $87 for all four labs (get the recording of the one that has already passed and registration for next three) or free if you're an MBP Community member. Recording included.
