Classical vocal instruction to sing all musical genres healthfully.

Thursday, October 20, 2022. It’s 1AM and I may pay for staying up but I’m glad to have made-up a 20oz jar of lemon slices, ginger, and honey for tea to keep my voice well on these chilly days.

Now sleeps the crimson petal, Op.3 No. 2 02/08/2021

Monday, February 8, 2021. Spring Term has commenced and one of my favorite things to do is research and assign repertoire that suites each student’s technical needs and personality. Over the past few weeks I’ve been assigning nearly a hundred pieces to students. In particular this beautiful English Art Song by Roger Quilter is resonating with me, and will be assigned to a Mars Hill University student. 🎶♥️🎶

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have a work I love, with the best colleagues and students one could ever wish for. 🙏🏼

“Musicians are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the earth. They deal with more day-to-day rejection in one year than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, they face the financial challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who think they should get real jobs, and their own fear that they’ll never work again. Every day, they have to ignore the possibility that the vision they have dedicated their lives to is a pipe dream. With every note, they stretch themselves, emotionally and physically, risking criticism and judgement. With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life – the car, the family, the house, the nest egg. Why? Because musicians are willing to give their entire lives to a moment – to that melody, that lyric, that chord, or that interpretation that will stir the audience’s soul. Musicians are beings who have tasted life’s nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out their creative spirit and touched another’s heart. In that instant, they were as close to magic, God, and perfection as anyone could ever be. And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that moment is worth a thousand lifetimes.”

A Conversation: What Do Science and Data Say About the Near Term Future of Singing #officialnats 07/28/2020

Tuesday, July 28, 2020. I’ll be teaching online this fall (click on the video below if you have questions). Currently I’m working with different equipment to see which is best for a “real time” experience. Working with my NATS and university colleagues is giving me various impressive options which diminish latency, and greatly improved sound. If you want to continue, or start back with private lessons this fall, send me a message and we’ll figure out a time. Since I won’t be spending a few hours every weekday driving I’m hoping to have extra time slots for teaching. 🎶♥️🎶
