A sea full of turtles can be found in yoga class. Some name this Turtle Pose while others call this Tortoise Pose. As a Biologist by background, these two creatures are related yet different. Each body unique in class takes this pose to another level. Held for 7-10 minutes in this Surrender Yin Yoga class this past Saturday August 8. Next class, August 15 11:25-12:15 PM. New inspiration & new routine.

Each Tuesday throughout the summertime I have brought a playful and engaging yoga program to the Lifetime Fitness Kids Summer Camp. During this five day a week camp, the children get to rotate between different workshops, offering different wellness practices. As the summer season almost wraps up, This past Tuesday, we worked with straps in individual practice as well as daring partner poses. There’s always something new in each yoga class!

After a long couple of hours of Kids Camp Yoga, this yoga teacher year unexpectedly takes a moment to recenter after class. Today’s theme in Kids’s yoga class was “unexpected” poses. We took poses in a new form and introduced a new instrument, the hand pan, to class. This summer, I can be found weekly bringing inspiring yoga practice to summer camp kids.

This store which has imports from Nepal, Tibet and other related regions is a haven for sound healers. They have a variety of sound healing instruments including this gigantic stand in singing bowl that has graced the front of the store for years. For a couple of decades now, I have pose near the giant singing bowl just like this. Supporting small, fair trade artisan businesses is a good start for sound healers to expand their instrument collections. This lovely shop on the corner of a retail district in downtown Asheville known as Wall Street district, sells clothing, jewelry, art and other linens alongside their sound healing instrument collection.

It’s been a few years since I’ve paid a drop in visit for a Yoga class. Asheville Community Yoga is one of my favorite studios due to its mission, creative offerings and its vibe. They include all level yoga classes, engaging workshops, kids programs, as well as as an in-house thrift shop. Take a look at the recent offerings advertised on the wall. Many one of a kind offerings make me wish that I was more local. My daughter and I savored a Sunday morning Gentle Yoga Class with Nicole. It was a full house. I take yoga classes wherever I travel. Thank you for hosting me once again.

Grow your own Pizza. All I need to do now is learn how to grow and harvest wheat and then I will have the whole pie! It’s a real joy to choose ingredients from my own garden from herb to fruit! What are you harvesting this June?

Summer school is less academic and more about physical education. This is one of my favorite teacher roles each summer season. This last week was “Dynamic Stretch and Focused Breath” which combines elements of yoga, Pilates and general functional movement. Many kids have never tried anything like this before. Movement like this can help enhance other athletics such as soccer, football, tennis, martial arts, swimming etc. They even learned that back in the day, football players had to train with Ballet!
