🎶 Back-to-School Kickoff! 🎶

We had the absolute best time welcoming our families back today as we gear up for the first day of school tomorrow! 🏫✨

A huge thank you to Wildcat alumnus Candler Rice ‘16, who joined us at our kickoff picnic to serenade everyone with incredible music and crowd-favorite sing-alongs. 🎸🎤

✨ Celebrating 90 Years of History & Tradition! ✨

In June 1936, a group of dedicated Asheville parents set out to create a new, prestigious educational opportunity for local students, founding Asheville Country Day School (ACDS). On September 16, 1936, ACDS officially opened its doors, marking the beginning of a legacy that continues to shape Carolina Day School today!

In the weeks leading up to Homecoming, we’ll be honoring our roots by sharing stories, archive photos, and memories from our ACDS history.

It’s hard to believe summer is almost over and school is right around the corner! 🏃‍♂️

The first sign of the new school year is always our athletes returning for fall sports. Remember those days? For our Cross Country alumni, remember those humid late-summer runs training for the season ahead? ☀️

Driscoll and Coach Z were back on campus this week with our CDS runners, getting them ready for a great season.

Yesterday was full of celebration, smiles, and unforgettable memories! 🎓
Here are just a few of our newest alumni celebrating Commencement with family and friends. We are excited to officially welcome the Class of 2026 to the Alumni Association!
We also loved seeing some familiar faces as young alumni returned to campus to cheer on their friends and celebrate this special milestone. Congratulations, Class of 2026—we’re proud to call you alumni! 🎉💙

As our graduating seniors prepare to launch into their next grand adventure, we are reflecting on how hard they’ve worked to get here. From late-night studying to final applications, we know these Wildcats are well-prepared for whatever comes next.

A huge shoutout to our incredible college counselor, Ms. Browning, for her tireless work in guiding our Upper School students through this journey! ❤️

They say resilience isn’t about how you fall, but how you find a new way to fly. 🕊️

For Hannah Tracy ’20, soccer has always been life. When health challenges took her off the competitive field, she didn’t walk away from her passion, instead she mastered it from a different angle. Now, she’s helping lead the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a Communications & Engagement Coordinator for the Volunteer Program. ⚽️

This past month, Hannah proved her “grit” yet again at the London Half Marathon. Facing a tough injury at mile 8, she pushed through the pain to finish strong, fueled by her mission to serve others. Her efforts raised £3,000 for Outward Bound, and contributed to a massive team total of £270,000 for the charity! An achievement she is (rightfully!) feeling fantastic about.

Hannah, your CDS family is so proud of the way you continue to lead, give, and overcome. You are the true definition of a champion! 🐾✨

Planting Seeds of Hope: From CDS Student to Conservation Leader 🌿

We were honored to welcome alumnus Chase Pickering ‘06 back to campus as a guest teacher for our Appalachian Natural History class with Mr. Buddy who taught Chase in Middle School! 🎓

Chase shared an inspiring journey that started right here at CDS when he first met Dr. Jane Goodall—a meeting made possible by the spark he found in her book Reason for Hope. That connection led to years of collaboration, including a special trip to Gombe National Park where Chase captured the iconic photograph that now graces the cover of Dr. Jane’s book, Seeds of Hope. 📸

While his travels have taken him far, Chase’s professional impact is deeply rooted in the U.S. and our local community. He spoke to students about:

🌱His leadership with Roots & Shoots and the Disney Conservation Fund.

🌱Protecting 342 acres at Deerview Mountain with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.

🌱His current projects supporting our region through his role at Biltmore Estate. 🏔️

His message was a powerful reminder: whether you’re advocating on Capitol Hill or volunteering in your own backyard, a passion for nature is all you need to make a difference. Thank you, Chase, for showing our students how to protect the wild places we call home! 🌱✨

This issue celebrates an incredible 2025–26 academic year, highlighting the moments and milestones that brought our community together—from Homecoming and our Decade Strong Reunion to meaningful classroom visits and engaging career panels in our Upper School.

This year, engagement hasn’t just been a goal, it’s become a defining part of who we are. Legacies captures the energy, connection, and spirit that continue to strengthen our alumni community.

A beautiful bridge between our past and our present. 🌲❤️

We recently hosted a very special storytelling breakfast where our St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines alumnae joined current US students to share life lessons and laughs.

From troublemaking stories in the 50s and 60s to advice on navigating today’s world, the room was buzzing with wisdom. It wasn’t just a history lesson—it was a beautiful reminder of the deep roots that make our school community what it is today.

From the CDS Biology Lab to the USDA! 🧪
We were thrilled to welcome back Bella Jazarevic ’24 for a special visit to her old stomping grounds! Bella returned to the biology lab to make her debut as a guest teacher, with two of her biggest mentors—her favorite teacher, Ms. Bartsch, and her former Advisor, Dr. Husemann—cheering her on from the audience.

Now a pre-med/PhD student at the University of Florida, Bella spent time over lunch mentoring students interested in pursuing undergraduate research. She shared invaluable advice on:

How to show interest and get hired as an undergraduate researcher.

Transitioning to a large university while staying true to yourself.

Mastering study skills and networking in a college setting.

Bella also shared how the resume she prepared in Ms. Browning’s College Exploration class was instrumental in landing her current role as a researcher for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Biological Defenses Department! 🪴🌱🌽

“CDS gave me a profound sense of self. I found what I deeply enjoyed and followed that love all the way into college... I want to make sure the young Wildcats know how lucky they are and how many resources there are at their disposal.”
