Buncombe Partnership for Children We value lifelong learning and believe that each child’s first 2,000 days are crucial.

Buncombe Partnership for Children is on a mission to strengthen the capacity of educators, families, and the community to build a strong foundation for children’s learning and development beginning at birth. The majority of brain development happens during the first 2,000 days—the 5 years between birth and kindergarten—forming the foundation for all future learning. This is why Buncombe Partnership for Children invests in children from ages birth to 5 years old and their families, caretakers, and educators by partnering with local organizations to:

- improve the quality of early childhood education;
- increase access to affordable, high quality early care;
- expand early literacy opportunities;
- encourage healthy eating, physical activity, and outdoor play; and,
- provide family support. Our vision is that every child in our community will reach their fullest potential and be prepared for lifelong success.

Applications are now open for the Infant & Toddler Expansion Grant!

Buncombe County child care programs may be eligible for cash grants to create new infant and toddler care slots or expand existing capacity. Funding can support classroom expansion, renovations, furniture and equipment, outdoor learning environments, staffing-related needs, and other costs associated with serving infants and toddlers.

Priority will be given to programs that are ready to increase licensed full-time infant and toddler care and can demonstrate a plan for sustaining those spaces over time. Licensed 4- and 5-star programs are encouraged to apply, and newly licensed centers with provisional licenses may also be eligible.

Congratulations to our latest Classroom Creativity Microgrant recipient Wild Curiosity Community School!

Their project will add an interactive music and sound wall to their playground, giving children a hands-on way to explore rhythm, sound, creativity, and discovery during outdoor play. Using instruments, chimes, PVC pipes, and recycled materials, the wall will encourage collaboration, problem-solving, sensory exploration, and lots of joyful noise! We can't wait to see (and hear!) what the children create.
