It's Throwback Thursday! Today we share a THEN and NOW highlight of a sweet first day of school tradition, the Rose Ceremony.

Every year, our first and eighth grade students came together on the first day of school for our treasured Rose Ceremony - when our oldest students welcome our first graders into grade school. Each eighth grader offers a rose to a first grader and wishes them well as they embark on their journey through the grades. This ceremony marks the beginning of a sweet connection between these classes that will culminate in a reciprocal ceremony in May.

Enjoy this collection of throwback photos from 2019, when our current eighth-grade class was in first grade, paired with photos from last week when they took their turn presenting roses to welcome the newest crop of first graders to grade school. We look forward to the day when these students get their turn to pass on the tradition.

Today we are celebrating the amazing talents of our Creative Domain specials teachers, Laura Blackley and Kate Chassner!

Laura won 2nd place as WNC's Best Music Teacher and Kate's skill as an art teacher brought Rainbow a second place win for Best Art Education Program. These ladies are much loved and their talents as artists and educators are a gift to our community. Be sure to congratulate Laura and Kate when you see them on campus this week!

The adolescent years are defined by a natural transition from adult to peer approval and validation. This creates a beautiful evolution into young adulthood interconnecting dynamic moments of suffering and confusion mixed with freedom and expansion.

Our Omega Middle Schoolers start each school year with an overnight trip that centers the social and emotional domains. Students spend two days and one night connecting, learning about one another, and developing or deepening friendships while engaged in outdoor activities, games, group centering, and more. What a wonderful start to the school year!

We are so proud to announce that Rainbow Community School was honored with SIX awards in the Mountain Xpress Best of WNC awards! This year's awards include first place for Best Preschool and second place for Best School.

Our mission is to develop accomplished, confident, and creative learners who are prepared to be compassionate leaders in building a socially just, spiritually connected, and environmentally sustainable world.

Today was the first day of school for our K-8 students! The 2026-27 school year is particularly special as we celebrate Rainbow Community School's 50th Anniversary. That's right Rainbow Community School has had 50 years of loving to learn and learning to love!

It is a long-held tradition to set up a photo opportunity for familiies on the first day of school and we hope you share some of your first day of school pic with us here. Drop them in the comments!
