Choosing the right school is a big decision, and we want to help you get it right for your family.

We have open spots in 5th grade for this year, and we would love to welcome you and your friends to join us! We're the only EL Education credentialed school for grades 5-12 in Western North Carolina, an approach built around learning by doing. Students take on hands-on projects with real-world connections, do work that matters beyond a grade, and get to be part of a close-knit community that we intentionally build with each other.

Take a look at what our students and staff have to say about life at FSI. If you're an FSI family already, share this with someone you know who's weighing options for their 5th grader. Word from you means more than anything that we could post ourselves.

We had such a good day full of reconnection for returning staff, introductions for those that are joining us and team building for everyone at Warren Wilson College during our end of summer staff retreat! We spent the day growing better relationships with each other and working on our communication and collaboration skills - something we can all always work on. We are so excited to see you next week, and we are looking forward to a great year ahead!

Seven countries. Fifteen days. Countless memories!

This summer, our students experienced the adventure of a lifetime, exploring seven incredible countries in just 15 days—the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, and England. Every stop offered a new culture, breathtaking scenery, unforgettable history, and experiences that will stay with us forever.

One of the most unforgettable days of the trip? We enjoyed breakfast in Germany, lunch in Austria, and dinner in Italy—three countries, three meals, all in one incredible day!

Our journey took us high above the clouds in the Swiss Alps, where we soaked in breathtaking mountain views before swimming in the crystal-clear waters of beautiful Lake Lucerne. We toured Heidelberg Castle in Germany and stood before its world-famous Great W**e Barrel, a centuries-old masterpiece tucked within the castle walls. We admired the rolling emerald-green hills of Austria, wandered through charming villages, and took in scenery that looked like it belonged on a postcard.

In Amsterdam, we watched skilled artisans craft authentic Dutch cheese and hand-carve traditional wooden clogs. On the island of Murano, we witnessed master glassblowers transform molten glass into stunning one-of-a-kind works of art. In Venice, we wandered through the famous fashion district before gliding through the city's enchanting canals on a traditional gondola ride, experiencing one of Italy's most iconic traditions from the water. We stood beneath the sparkling Eiffel Tower as it lit up the Paris night sky, explored the rich history and landmarks of England, and discovered countless hidden gems along the way, like the cities of Trento, Beaufort, with a surprise stop in Lake Como!

These moments are only a glimpse of everything we experienced. From iconic landmarks and incredible food to new friendships, personal growth, and unforgettable adventures, this trip reminded us that the best classroom doesn't always have four walls.

Thank you to our amazing students and families for making this journey possible. We can't wait to see where our next adventure takes us!

Congratulations to Michael Anderson, a 2026 Educator of Excellence!

We are thrilled to share that Mr. Anderson was honored as a 2026 Educator of Excellence at The Arc of Buncombe County's Annual Meeting.

Michael has spent his career making a lasting difference in the lives of students with disabilities. For the past several years, he has brought that same dedication to FSI as an Exceptional Children (EC) teacher, where his passion, expertise, and unwavering belief in every student inspire those around him daily.

Beyond the classroom, he is a trusted colleague and a committed member of our school community. His kindness, leadership, and dedication leave a lasting impact on the students, families, and fellow educators he works alongside.

We are proud to celebrate him and the way he inspires confidence, creates opportunities, and reminds all of us that every student deserves to be seen, supported, and empowered.

Congratulations, Michael. Thank you for making a difference every day!
