The Witching Hour - a podcast episode by Avery McIntire, Johanna Weinheimer, and Kaleigh Poteet, students in Dr. Hung's SOC 374 Witches, Feminism, African Anthropology course.
"This isn’t just stories about witches… it’s a story of power—who gets to have it and who gets punished for knowing too much.”
In this podcast episode of The Witching Hour, students from the Witches, Feminism and African Anthropology course explore the long history of midwives and women healers. The Witching Hour traces how feminized knowledge about health has been “regulated and dismissed by systems of authority” from witch trials to modern debates around reproductive rights and medical control. As they say, “the pattern hasn’t gone away… it’s still everywhere,” which offers a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of healing, knowledge, and resistance in feminist considerations around health and healing.

Incarceration continues to expand in rural communities today, even as nationwide incarceration rates decline. Come hear about why Applachia has been largely overlooked in analyses of the American prison state.
Many thanks to our student Community Coordinators Rory Killian and Mara Matthews for their incredible effort organizing events this semester! They have created so many exciting learning opportunities, and we appreciate their energy and enthusiasm in the midst of a busy semester!
