Montessori Sensorial materials invite children to explore the world through their senses; observing, comparing, matching, and refining their understanding of size, shape, dimension, and more. A child working with the Geometric Solids is quietly building a foundation for geometry and mathematical thinking. And that Pink Tower in the background? Just another day of serious work disguised as play. 😉

One of the very first lessons in a Montessori classroom? Rolling out a rug. 🧺

A child learns how to choose a rug, carry it carefully, unroll it, and create a defined space for their work. When they’re finished, they roll it back up and return it to its place.

It’s a first lesson in independence.
It’s a lesson in caring for our environment.
It’s a lesson in moving with purpose.
And it’s a lesson in preparing a space where focused, meaningful work can happen.

It may look simple, but this little lesson lays the foundation for so much of Montessori learning.

It all starts with a rug. ❤️

There is something special about the beginning of a school year. The classrooms are freshly prepared, shelves are waiting with familiar materials and new invitations to explore, and there is a particular excitement that comes with knowing that a new group of children is about to begin, or continue, their journey together ...
