Chef Hertz's Therapeutic Cuisine certificate students had their final today. They presented entrees from their final 3-course menu to a panel of instructors and industry partners. Chef Hertz was invited by our CUL alum Brian Crow for tonight’s soft opening of Daymakers, his new restaurant in Swannanoa. Chef Crow serves sliders with a chefs twist. One can have a smashburger slider if they feel traditional or they can have pork belly, crab cake, or choice of nearly a dozen different interesting styles. They also serve fresh salads, a handful of sides and starters, and an assortment of desserts. Sliders and dessert can be purchased as flights or individually. We were duly impressed and we wish Chef Crow success with the new place!

Last week our beloved retired Baking & Pastry Arts instructor Charles deVries was awarded the 2026 Cutting Edge Award by the American Culinary Federation at the national convention in Grand Rapids. We are super stoked that Chef deVries is getting the recognition he deserves for a lifetime's commitment to excellence as an artiste and as an educator. Congrats, Chef!
