Students explored the science behind why leaves change colors by learning about chlorophyll and pigmentation through a hands-on experiment using rubbing alcohol.
They also connected the lesson to melanin and the natural pigmentation found in their own skin, helping students see the beautiful ways science connects to everyday life and to themselves.
Zoo School always comes prepared, and our students always leave informed!

We’re shaping up for our Spring Showing and STEAM Garden Reveal!
Our students have been hard at work completing the mosaic mural with Breahna and filling the pollinator pots with the NC Zoo, as we prepare to showcase months of creativity, learning, and growth.
We invite everyone to come see what we’ve been working on this Thursday and celebrate the incredible work of our students and staff!

Our friends from Zoo School joined us again for another fun-filled Ag Literacy session!
While we didn’t have a full harvest just yet, students were still able to pick fresh veggies from the garden and turn them into homemade salsa, pico, and jars of dried spices. Some students were out harvesting, some were slicing and dicing, and others were happily volunteering as taste testers.
We’re happy to report there were no known complaints!

We’ve been catching up on a LOT here at Carver Arts!
From STEM Bingo to EOG prep, assembling mosaic art panels with Breahna Holden, and printing our 3D bees with Julie Brady in the Innovation Lab. Our students have been busy creating, learning, and growing every step of the way.
Who said the end of the school year slows things down? Around here, it’s Carver on the Go!

Our students continued working on their mosaics, and the pieces are really beginning to come to life!
Each design reflects creativity, focus, and the inspiration behind their study of George Washington Carver. Want to see the finished masterpieces? Join us for our Spring Public Showing on May 28th!

We enjoyed another incredible session with Julie Brady in the Design Thinking Lab!
Students brought their very first 3D designs to life as they learned how the 3D printer works through a series of test prints. This hands on experience gave them the opportunity to explore the design process, understand the technology, and see their ideas become real creations for the first time.
Moments like these continue to build curiosity, creativity, and confidence as students engage with innovation in new ways.

Our students spent time learning more about the life and legacy of George Washington Carver and they definitely came prepared with notes to show for it!
Using inspiration from Carver’s life’s work, students began visualizing, grouping their colors together and bringing their mosaic designs to life, that will be featured in our Spring Public Showing on May 28th.
This visual arts education session was led by our talented professional artist, Breahna Holden, who guided students through both the creative process and the deeper historical connection behind their work.
