We are so thankful for Nurse Brady! ❤️

Today, we proudly celebrate our incredible school nurses! School nurses play a vital role in supporting student success. They provide essential medical care, manage chronic conditions, respond to emergencies, promote wellness, and help ensure that students are healthy and ready to learn each day. We like to think of them as heroes in scrubs! 👩‍⚕️🦸‍♀️

Please join us in thanking:

🚨Important Schedule Update for Friday, May 1, 2026 | Asheboro City Schools will shift to a remote learning day for all students on Friday, May 1, 2026.

This decision comes in response to the statewide “Day of Action” rally scheduled in Raleigh, where educators, families, and students are gathering to advocate for NC public schools. This week there has been a significant number of our staff members who have requested leave to participate, resulting in anticipated shortages of substitute teachers and support personnel. With these limitations, we would not be able to ensure adequate supervision and normal operations across our schools.

Moving to a remote learning day allows us to prioritize student safety while continuing instruction in a modified format that does not require an additional make up day. Teachers will provide learning tasks on Thursday for students to complete on Friday.

🎓Seniors who have Asheboro City Schools Education Foundation Scholarship interviews scheduled for May 1 will still participate at their originally scheduled times.

We understand that changes to the school schedule can create challenges for families, and we appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to balance the support of our staff with our responsibility to maintain a safe learning environment for all students.

Schools will have additional details about remote learning expectations or schedule adjustments.

Thank you for your continued support of Asheboro City Schools.

We are so proud of our NC Wildlife and Ecology students this year. They have worked with the Zoo staff both semesters with the Salamander Surveys. It’s a wonderful hands on learning opportunity for our Zoo School students!

Asheboro High School students are making a real impact beyond the classroom! 🦎🌿

In a recent Zoo Filez segment, students from our AHS Zoo School program are featured working alongside staff from the North Carolina Zoo, heading into the field to collect data on salamanders and support important conservation efforts.

North Carolina is actually a global hotspot for salamanders, with dozens of species found right here in our state. Through hands-on research and partnerships like this, our students are helping protect these unique species while gaining real-world scientific experience.

We are so proud of these students for contributing to meaningful work in our own community. 💙

Are you a middle- or high-school student who loves wildlife? Or maybe you know a teen looking for a meaningful summer experience? 🐾🌿

The North Carolina Zoo's Teen Volunteer Program is now accepting applications! This is a fantastic, low-pressure way for rising 6th graders through recent high school graduates to spend their summer (May–August) learning, growing, and making a difference.

Teens who volunteer with us build real career-readiness skills like communication, teamwork, and leadership - all while connecting with fellow conservation enthusiasts. They'll explore potential career paths in a zoo setting, support our mission to save wildlife, and gain confidence along the way.

There are several ways to get involved, including programs like Play Pals, Junior Wildlife Assistant, Camp Crew, and Zoo Futures.

The deadline to submit your interest form is April 22.

We love our School Counselors!

It’s National School Counseling Week (Feb. 2–6)!

Our school counselors are not your mama’s guidance counselors, and we mean that in the best way. 😉 Today’s school counselors are champions, problem-solvers, cheerleaders, listeners, planners, and calm-in-the-storm humans who support students in so many ways.

From helping students navigate academics, social-emotional needs, college and career planning, and mental wellness, to crisis support, goal-setting, scheduling, and everything in between, our counselors are always there when students need them most.

Be sure to thank a school counselor this week!
