Mrs. Haithcock and Mrs. Cashatt’s 7th grade science students turned into meteorologists today! Students collected and analyzed different forms of weather data by interpreting weather tools at different weather stations. Students used their data in order to create weather station models - symbolic illustrations used by meteorologists to communicate and summarize weather data at a given location.

Mrs. Hughes’ Earth & Environmental Science students stepped into the rule of earthquake scientists as they completed five Seismic Command Center missions! Students located earthquakes by reading seismograms, identifying P and S waves, calculating S-P intervals, and using compasses to draw triangulation circles and determine an earthquake’s epicenter. They then investigated patterns in earthquake and volcano locations and researched why North Carolina experiences earthquakes. A hands-on Stress Trap demonstration helped them discover that stress can build up and cause earthquakes even within the interior of a tectonic plate. To conclude their investigation, students put all of their evidence together to develop a claim and explain their reasoning using the data they collected throughout the missions.

Happy International Dot Day! 🔵🟣🟡 Ms. Welborn and Mrs. Delk’s kindergarten students celebrated creativity, collaboration, and making their mark in a BIG way! Since the class is currently exploring sharks through project-based learning, we brought the two together to create one giant collaborative dot-covered shark. 🦈🎨 Students used paint, pom-poms, buttons, and other materials to add their own unique touches to our class creation. We love seeing learning, creativity, and teamwork, come together! Check out their masterpiece! ❤️
