Ashby FFA Officer retreat 2026! ☀️

Our officers have been hard at work these past few days getting ready for the school year! They planned out activities for the year, set goals and expectations, and overall bonded as a team!

Make sure to stop by and say hi at Open House while we serve dinner to support students going to National Convention!

School may be out, but our officers stay busy!☀️

During Ashby Appreciation days, our officers kept busy by serving concessions, working at our booth, and participating in the parade! We also served porkchops to the Grant County Farm Bureau to thank them for donating to our Greenhouse project!

State Greenhand Leadership Conference ✨

Recently a few of our officers attended SGLC at Deep Portage with other FFA members from across the state. Our Ashby members were able to build connections, practice their leadership skills, and learn more about FFA opportunities! We are so proud they took the jump into their next level of leadership!

Last spring, Ashby was awarded a grant through MDE to purchase 6 hydroponic grow towers. The towers were placed in elementary classrooms and cared for by horticulture students throughout the semester. Horticulture students weekly tested the tower water and added nutrients and water to the towers. Horticulture students also developed lessons for our elementary students on what plants need to grow and how to grow plants hydroponically. Garden goods were sampled in May and the horticulture students created a berry/kale smoothie recipe that was shared with the elementary classrooms who housed a hydroponic garden.

The Supermileage class built 2 cars this year that they brought to the Brainerd International Raceway for the statewide Supermileage Challenge held on May 11-12. Both cars passed the technical inspection and earned the stamp of approval to be driven on the track. Engine issues unfortunately prevented both cars from remaining in the competition for long but Ashby students displayed skills in team work, troubleshooting, problem solving and persevering throughout the competition! Both cars can compete again next year so plans for improvement are already being discussed.

Happenings in 7th grade Ag - 7th graders got to spend sometime in the Ag shop recently building candy dispenser and wood burning coasters. They are currently finishing up their wildlife management unit and spent the afternoon at Glendalough State Park last Thursday learning how the park manages wildlife.

Last week we hosted our very first Field & Forest Day at Glendalough State Park 🌲🌱

The 9th grade MN Outdoors class planned lessons for our Ashby 2nd graders, focusing on forestry, wildlife, and the prairie. Despite the rain, we later got a chance to practice tree ID and go birding. 7th graders even joined us!
