This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a benchmark in our shared history and an opportunity to pause, remember, and reflect.

As has been our tradition for many years, Cushing Student Body Co-Presidents Cherry Deng ‘27 and Coley Mark ‘27, accompanied by Head of School Dr. Randy Bertin, solemnly rang the bell in the Main Building at 8:46 am, when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower, and 9:03 am, when United Airlines Flight 175 collided with the South Tower.

The tolling of the bell, and the moment of silence that follows, is in remembrance of the thousands of lives lost that day, including two cherished members of the Cushing community: Michael Uliano ’79, and Mark Bavis ’89.

Michael was working on the 105th floor of the North Tower as a broker at Cantor Fitzgerald. He was 42 years old.

Mark was an employee for the Los Angeles Kings and a passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 175. He was 31 years old.

As we mark this 25th year, we remember Michael and Mark, along with all those who lost their
lives, the first responders who answered the call, and the many families and communities forever changed by September 11.
