Rock Ridge High School choral booster club
The Rock Ridge Sings choral booster club was established in August 2014 to support the musical arts at Rock Ridge High School, and specifically the various choral music programs under the direction of Conductor Jordan Markwood.
Mission: The Rock Ridge Sings choral booster club mission has five components: 1. Encourage and facilitate growth, success and sustainability of the Rock Ridge choir program. 2. Provide fundraising support for choir expenses and related student activities. 3. Facilitate volunteer support for the choir program and its events, activities, and functions. 4. Promote the Rock Ridge choir program, including its performances, activities, students, and community. 5. Foster greater communication between students, parents, choir directors, school administration, and the community at-large, as relates to musical arts.

#ACDA member, Jordan Markwood, began his ACDA journey as part of his ACDA collegiate chapter and then found his continued membership valuable when he began his teaching career. "I enjoy attending the Southern Division and National Conferences and have had students participate in various conference choirs. The conferences have been an amazing opportunity to network, be inspired, gain new repertoire ideas, and see some amazing performances that motivate me to work even harder with my ensembles."
Jordan has utilized the network of colleagues that he has established through ACDA multiple times during his teaching career knowing "If I ever need ideas for anything I know I have a great group of friends that I can ask for assistance."

Check out this feature on our director, Jordan Markwood!
Today’s “Where Are They Wednesday” segment highlights Jordan Markwood, a Class of 2005 music education major with vocal emphasis. “I loved my time at Houghton,” he recalls. “I attribute a lot of my success and preparation for my career and music ministry to Houghton.”
After Houghton, Jordan immediately went on to graduate school at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, NJ. In the Spring of 2007, he received a Master of Music degree in vocal pedagogy and performance, with an emphasis in pedagogy. “Once I finished my degree at WCC, I moved home to Winchester, VA, and began teaching at the brand-new Stone Hill Middle School in Ashburn, VA,” Jordan recounts. “The choral program grew from 85 students to 450 during my time there.”
While in Winchester, Jordan traveled most summers as part of the adult staff for Voices of Youth, a youth mission choir sponsored by the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. “I also was the music director for the all-women Shenandoah Valley Chorus (now SING!Shenandoah)—a Sweet Adelines Chorus located in Winchester,” Jordan writes.
Today, Jordan is the choral director and fine arts department chair at Rock Ridge High School PTSO in Ashburn, VA. “The choirs at Rock Ridge have received numerous honors,” says Jordan, “including singing on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center for a Music In Our Schools Month celebration in 2017 and performing at the 2018 Virginia Music Educators Association Annual Conference.”
He is also the Director of Music at Galilee United Methodist Church in Sterling, VA, where he leads the choir and Galilee Praise Project. In 2017, the Houghton College Choir had the opportunity to perform at Galilee as part of their spring tour.
A recent career highlight for Jordan? “A quartet of my students ‘The Four Tones’ was invited (all expenses paid!) to go to Shanghai, China to perform on a Chinese Television Special celebrating China’s birthday and I traveled with them as their vocal coach.”
This is life as a Highlander! 💜💛
