On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri, students of Abhinaya Tharangini Academy offered Nritya Puja at SSVT MD on February 15. Heartfelt thanks to Deepti Mukund for organizing this beautiful dance festival for the past 16 years.

Abhinaya Tharangini Students had a wonderful opportunity to be part of a wonderful cause - a fundraiser by Shankara Netralaya Foundation of USA, past weekend on Dec 6th. Dance performances by 25+ DMV dance schools supported cause and we were thrilled to be part of it. We thank foundation cultural chair Neelima Gaddamanugu and DMV cultural coordinator Lakshmi Babu for all their efforts in bringing this event to our area.

Abhinaya Tharangini Academy students had an amazing opportunity to attend, "Embodying Abhinaya”, an exquisite workshop presented by my Guru and Chair of the Kuchipudi Department at Aria University, Dr. Yashoda Thakore, here in Virginia this past weekend. The workshop captivated us with her mastery of the subtle nuances and intricacies of abhinaya, that is rarely taught and can only emerge from internalized feeling. Yashoda Akkayya’s demonstration of abhinaya through the eyes, with minimal reliance on hastas, was especially striking and brought a profound realism to the performance. My students, along with many others from local DMV dance schools, were truly mesmerized as they learned to embody abhinaya through a Javali and a Padam, gaining unique insights into the expressive art form of Kuchipudi dance.

The students of Abhinaya Tharangini had a wonderful time performing at the Nrityanjali Dance Festival and fundraiser, organized by the cultural committee of the Sri Venkateshwara Lotus Temple in Virginia. The event featured performances from 35 local dance schools.

Abhinaya Tharangini is extremely proud of Trisha Kamdar, a senior student of the academy who is currently pursuing undergraduate studies in Nursing at VCU. Despite her demanding academic schedule, she continues to nurture her passion for Kuchipudi, actively participating in dance festivals not only in her home state but also out of state.

Trisha was recently selected to perform at the prestigious EKA Festival in CA, where she delivered a graceful performance and received numerous accolades.

Our heartfelt congratulations and blessings to her as she continues to shine.

Kuchipudi Rangapravesham by my student Aarushi Bommidi!

With God’s grace and the blessings of my parents and gurus, Abhinaya Tharangini Academy presented its sixth Kuchipudi Rangapravesham on Aug 9, 2025. Aarushi gave a spectacular performance by skillfully emoting subtle nuances of abhinaya and showcased a good balance of expressive gestures and gracious movements. She made me and her parents immensely proud!

Aarushi holds a Senior Certificate in Kuchipudi Dance from SAMPADA. She is currently pursuing Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering at Purdue University, Indiana. Loads of blessings to her!
