A group lesson on waiting hand is being presented. This is an important lesson for children in Grace and courtesy in a Montessori classroom. Waiting hand comes in when the guide is busy giving a lesson to another child. The child who needs the guide’s attention, gentle comes and places their hands on the guide’s shoulder and waits for the guide to finish giving the current lesson or finish a conversation. The guide gentle places their hands on the child’s hand , acknowledging that they know the child is waiting while continuing to give the lesson.
This teaches the child to wait patiently, and be respectful of the people learning and talking. They learn not to interrupt a conversation, and wait till they are acknowledged and given a chance to speak.

Our daily affirmations are for our children to grow their Emotional quotient. Children these days spend so much time at the school, they need to not just learn ABCs and 123s, they also need to learn how to manage their emotional intelligence. They are our future adults, who are going to shape this world with peace and kindness. And it is our role to teach them to believe in themselves to go out into the world and make that change!

Montessori practical life may seem like chores for those who are new to the environment. But the joy the children get out of purposeful work where they make real impact in their environment, is unmatched with any pretend toy would give them.
The classroom is called Children’s House, as the children take it upon themselves to take care of their classroom just like they would their own house. They water the plants, they polish the wooden materials and wash tables to maintain the beauty of the classroom, all while building skills, confidence and their hand muscles to prepare them for writing.

A child’s concentration is something we must protect. When a child is completely engrossed in an activity, we must not intervene or interfere and allow the child to build their concentration. This is where they find themselves most happy and fulfilled with their work.
With deep concentration, they achieve independence, and the actual learning is happening right there.
So next time you see your child concentrating, don’t pitch in, don’t ask them what they are doing, don’t help them finish their task. Allow them to concentrate and protect the concentration.
