Moles, Sharks, Whipped Cream, and Chili

It’s been a busy 36 hours- Thursday morning, less than 8 hours after finishing up our 6+ hour budget meeting, I was out at Riverside HS subbing for a Chemistry class who were working on a Moles online lab. From my discussions with my students, they were excited about parking fees ending, and recognized the need for big changes when it comes to school lunches (the biggest topic I always hear about from our students!)

This morning, I had 3 school visits, starting with Discovery Elementary. After watching their space-themed morning news (most of their school is space themed after Space Shuttle Discovery), it was time for a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) reward, which saw Principal Painter and Dean DiLorenzo get “pied” with whipped cream; although Ms. DiLorenzo initially was spared as her plate flew over her head, Mr. Painter wasn’t going to let her get out of it unscathed!

Next up was my first visit to Moorefield Station, home of the sharks. I had a great meeting with Principal Williams, who then gave me a tour of her school. We stopped in a number of classrooms and saw the great work in action. The kids all seemed to love Ms. Williams, who was the recipient of dozens of hugs! Moorefield also had a wonderful courtyard classroom that was designed by Eagle Scouts back in 2013-14. They can’t wait to be back outside when the weather warms up.

Last up was Willard Middle School, where they were having their staff chili cookoff during their lunch shifts. There were 16 different chilis, ranging from prime rib chili, venison chili, chicken chili, Italian sausage chili, veggie chili, spicy chili, etc. I ate well 😁
