Greetings, Stone Bridge Crew-tons!

Over the next few weeks, we will be visited by a couple of recruiters from college rowing programs to talk about college rowing in general and to market their respective programs to our membership.

January 11, 11:15 – 1:00 at Tru-Strength: Two coaches from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio (relax, Marietta is closer to Ashburn than Blacksburg…) will be with us to i) observe our strength training, ii) talk about college rowing in general and iii) for juniors and seniors and their parents, recruit for their program. For a preview, please see their website below:

https://www.marietta.edu/

January 25, time and location TBD: The Director of Rowing at Stockton University in Atlantic City, NJ will be here for a similar visit. This will be a larger visit because Broad Run, Rock Ridge and possibly other Loudoun County rowing programs will be participating as well. Their website is also below:

I encourage all of you to consider continuing this most excellent of sports in college. It can be a gigantic enhancement to your education, it continues to build the life skills of teamwork, selflessness, perseverance to name a few that will benefit and enhance most careers.

Coach Zeller

Marietta College “My time at Marietta prepared me for my career in both the academic and social applications of my education. The broad set of courses I spent time in at Marietta provided me with an increased desire to ask the ‘why’ or ‘how’ that leads to learning.”

This has to rank in the top 20 of most challenging rowing conditions I have ever experienced. And this includes four years on the Muskingum and Ohio rivers back in college. Driving rain, wind, 40 degree temps, mud that would do justice to the World War One Somme battlefield. But the boys and girls varsity had an excellent session today, showing courage, strength and discipline. A particular nod to the girls V8 for finding their intensity in the two minute pieces! Let’s carry this momentum into the weekend!
