At MAB, we believe in preparing a child for life...
The Montessori Academy at Belmont Greene, known to our parents as “MAB” was founded by Beth and Bart Theriot (mother and son) in 2001. We remain the sole owners of the Academy and are devoted to maintaining an authentic Montessori environment for all of our students. We are a full member school of the American Montessori Society (AMS) offering a true Montessori environment to children age 10 weeks through 10 years. Beth and Bart also own and operate the Northern Virginia Montessori Institute, located on MAB’s campus, which is the only AMS affiliated Montessori early childhood teacher education program in Northern Virginia.
MAB is located just off Belmont Ridge Rd. with easy access to Ashburn, Leesburg, as well as surrounding communities via The Greenway and Route 7. Belmont Greene is the first Traditional Neighborhood Development in Loudoun County, designed for mixed generational neighborhoods. It incorporates small parks and village shops all connected by footpaths and sidewalks and is an ideal location for a school which utilizes hands-on learning for subjects such as science and nature.
Our facility was specifically designed by Beth Theriot using her 30 years of Montessori teaching experience. The school building is over 15,000 square feet of open, bright and spacious area and includes a gymnasium, 6 primary classrooms, 3 infant toddler rooms and an elementary wing. Our 3 acre wooded grounds offer two playgrounds, garden boxes and a nature trail, maintained by our elementary students.
At MAB, we offer all-day Montessori. This allows our students to develop their own timelines and strengthen their abilities to start and finish tasks. Spending the day in our children's house ensures they'll feel comfortable, independent, and confident. http://bit.ly/2DpHZY2
“The teacher’s mission has for its aim something constant and exact, bearing in mind the words, “He must grow while I must diminish.” -- Maria Montessori

Language is the cornerstone of emotional, social and academic development. From infant through elementary, we offer a rich, multi-sensory approach to language development, which includes Cursive, American Sign language and Mandarin Chinese.
What makes MAB stand out? Our facilities, specially designed for children by Beth Theriot, are over 15,000 square feet of bright, spacious area including classrooms, a gymnasium, library and elementary wing. Our 3 acre wooded grounds offer two playgrounds, garden boxes, outdoor classrooms and a nature trail, maintained by our elementary students.
In Early Montessori, language and independence are the two largest areas of concentration in this level. Children expand both their understanding of language through demonstration and materials in the classroom as well as their spoken language as they increase their vocabulary and practice communicating with those around them.

“We, and our children, can’t thank the school and staff enough for the lessons they learned while there, both academically and socially…Our 3 kids were very different types of students/learners but they each took away the maximum possible from the Montessori method, and learned to challenge themselves…If we had it to do all over again, we wouldn’t change a thing about our MAB experience, except to make it longer.” Read more testimonies about the success of MAB and consider scheduling a visit today! http://bit.ly/2DnLL48
A goal of the Montessori teacher is that as the child grows, the teacher’s importance diminishes. However, as with any pedagogy, the teacher’s ability to apply the philosophy has a significant impact on the quality of the program and the outcomes for the children.
Children learn the importance of peace through their work and social interactions. They are taught that peace often comes from within, but it must be practiced. Peace is also far easier to destroy than to create.
Children are given choices and responsibility and they have significant ownership in their classrooms. Each child learns to lead, follow and how to choose between the two.
Just a friendly reminder:
We will be donating lost and found items on Friday. Feel free to stop in and take a look if you think your child may be missing something :)

In the Montessori environment, teachers look to step back as often as they step forward. Indeed, a goal of the Montessori teacher is that the child is working as if the teacher is not in the room.
In Montessori, from the earliest ages, children learn how their actions affect others. Through planned and unplanned social interactions as well as modeling by the teachers, children learn lessons of grace and courtesy.
At MAB, we encourage mistakes. We even plan for them in every lesson. Mistakes will shape your child’s development more than anything else. So when they happen, we make sure each one is an opportunity for the child to grow and learn. Embrace and encourage mistakes at home.
Home is the place where we feel most comfortable, supported and confident. It is where we do our best thinking and our best work. That's why MAB is not just a school. It is a children's house where every child can feel at home.
We believe in a school without worksheets, come visit us and find out why. Call us at (703) 270-0682 or schedule a visit at
Video screens provide instant gratification in return for passive engagement. As a result, the child’s patience suffers. #MABProTip
[09/19/18] Just a friendly reminder that Social Services requires an updated immunization record in your child's file each school year. We do get audited several times a year. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks :)
