[12/02/20] The Waxpool Elementary School PTA meeting scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. We hope you can join the school's admin team on 12/17 for our next coffee talk! ☕️
As we prepare to welcome back our 3-5 hybrid students tomorrow and Wednesday W.E. wanted to reshare as much of this is still appropriate!
Also, parents of ALL HYBRID STUDENTS should be sure to check ParentVUE and verify no transportation adjustments have been made by LCPS as our in-person numbers increase.
As we prepare for more of our students to return to in-person learning at Waxpool, you may notice some changes around our school. Watch the video and visit http://tiny.cc/WhatToKnow to see some of what to expect!
[11/26/20] W.E. want to wish our entire Piranha family a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are truly grateful to be surrounded by such an amazing and supportive community. Thank you.
Don't forget! Thanksgiving break begins tomorrow. Schools will be closed from November 25 - November 27.
We hope everyone has a great break!
With Thanksgiving around the corner, one thing W.E. are thankful for is our amazing Piranha staff! 💙🧡
It’s not a word you expect to hear in a kindergarten classroom.
Unless you’re at Waxpool Elementary…
“As a kindergarten teacher, I am responsible for building the foundation for deeper learning,” said Waxpool kindergarten teacher Natalie Walker. “We introduce computational thinking vocabulary, such as algorithm, in meaningful ways. For example, students understand that an algorithm is a step-by-step instruction. We introduce this concept in ways that are authentic to students’ lives; you follow a step-by-step routine when you brush your teeth, make a sandwich, purchase lunch at school, etc. This real-life application of tricky vocabulary builds a deeper understanding and paves the way for more abstract application in the future.”

Shapes, graphing, counting, and more... Kindergarteners are learning a LOT as they work through their pumpkin algorithms!
An amazing 2nd "first day" of hybrid instruction in the books as W.E. welcomed our Wednesday/Friday students back! Our families, staff, and students were amazing once again... THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of our Tuesday/Thursday students, families, and staff members that helped make it a great first day of K-2 hybrid instruction! Even with so much new, it was a smooth and successful start.
Do YOU have a student returning this week for hybrid instruction?
Please be sure to check your email around 6:00am daily (and a reminder email around 7:00am) to complete the LCPS Symptom Checker Questionnaire. A separate questionnaire must be completed for each student on days they will attend in person learning at our school.
- Ensure ParentVUE is updated with your most current email address
- If you don't see it in your inbox check other folders like Promotions or SPAM
- Write down your child's student ID number (aka lunch number) somewhere you can easily find it before tomorrow morning
- On the first survey, you can also register for a text message link that may be more convenient
