Academies of Loudoun

Has anyone heard if the ACL students will be in the first wave of students to return to school? I heard it was going to be discussed at last nights board meeting but I can not find an answer.
Okay can some one confirm that what we got in the e-mail tonight. It sounds like kids will get twice as much teacher lead instruction via DL as they get in hybrid?
When will the Academies send us information on the curriculm and schedule for a Hybrid or DL so we can make our decision? I did not see anything on discussion groups Did I miss something during the SB meeting regarding ACL?
May I the list of extracurricular activity clubs at Academies of Loudoun?
Mark you calendars for next year's Leesburg Car Show on September 12. All profits support ACL student scholarships!

The mission of the Academies of Loudoun is to empower students to explore, research, collaborate, innovate, and make meaningful contributions to the world.

The students you see below were all part of a Virginia Dominion Energy Envirothon team lead by Lori Stone, AP Environmental Science teacher at the Academy of Engineering & Technology and Jennifer Hiltner, Research Librarian at the Academies of Loudoun. After learning the Envirothon competition they had worked so hard to prepare for was canceled due to COVID-19, these tenacious students kept their spirit and motivation up by continuing with their pursuit of Natural Resource knowledge and competing in the Virtual Natural Resource Event in June. CONGRATULATIONS to these keen environmentalists who all scored in the top ten of one or more of the Natural Resource testing categories. We appreciate your efforts in learning about the natural world and know you are making a difference in the world!!

Way to go Time Tek!

Time Tek, a team from the Loudoun Academy of Engineering and Technology (AET), placed second in the INCubatoredu 2020 National Student Pitch.

This program is sponsored by Uncharted Learning, a group that promotes student entrepreneurship. Time Tek presented its work at the recent Uncharted Learning National Summit, which was held virtually.

Five teams competed for the top prize with Time Tek taking home $4,000 as seed money to execute its business plan. A total of 15,000 students entered the pitch contest.

Time Tek’s product is a time-management app that uses advanced voice features and an interactive agenda to provide students with a virtual personal assistant.

The members of the Time Tek team, all of whom are rising juniors, include:

• Chief Visionary Officer Sarah Naghmi, Dominion High School and The Academy of Engineering and Technology.
• Chief Financial Officer Tanvi Jammula, Independence High School and The Academy of Engineering and Technology.
• Riya Nair, Briar Woods High School and The Academy of Engineering and Technology.
• Zachary Yingling, Woodgrove High School and The Academy of Engineering and Technology.
“Our team had challenges as a result of the COVID-19 shutdown, but still persisted because of our mindset and belief in a product that could help millions spend time, their most valuable asset, more effectively,” said Naghmi. She added Time Tek’s triumph is an example of how distance learning can work if people are motivated.

The Academy of Engineering and Technology is part of the Academies of Loudoun. Laura Boyd Smidt teaches entrepreneurship at the AET and Time Tek was part of this program.
