At the Virginia Junior Academy of Science (VJAS) 2026 Awards Ceremony on May 18, 2026, ACL students received top honors. Ridhi Gutta was selected at the VJAS delegate to the American Junior Academy of Science for her paper, “Combatting Lassa Fever: Investigating Pathogenesis and Constructing a Preliminary Vaccine Candidate.” This is the highest recognition in VJAS! She also received the Ertle Thompson Memorial Endowment Award and the Ann M. Hancock Cellular Biology Award for best paper in cellular biology. Ridhi will also go on to represent Virginia at the American Junior Academy of Science competition in Feb. 2027.

Krish Behera was recognized by the Computational Biology Section of VJAS for outstanding research presented in a Computational Section of VJAS for his paper, “EpiSight: A Graph Convolutional Network for Epileptogenic Zone Localization in Drug-Resistant Epilepsy Using Phase-Amplitude Coupling”.

Virginia Junior Academy of Science (VJAS) provides a Juried Science Symposium Conference for students. They submit their papers for consideration, with the potential to become presenters. Each participant engages in state-level leadership experiences, has their work published in the Proceedings or VOICE, accesses scholarships, and collaborates with mentors.
