We talk about MAP Growth and SOLs all the time, but the path to a “Pass Advanced” score is actually built on very simple, foundational skills.

In LCPS, teachers are covering new, grade-level material every week.

If your child is still using mental energy or fingers to solve 8x7, they won’t have enough focus left to tackle the complex, multi-step problems later on.

Use this checklist this weekend. If you find a gap, it’s not a reflection of your child, it’s just a signal of where we need to strengthen the foundation.

The faster we address it, the more confident they will feel all year.

Loudoun County parents: LCPS’s current MAP Growth schedule for 2026–27 includes Fall and Winter testing, with no Spring administration scheduled.

Grade 1 students take MAP Growth Math, while students in Grades 2–8 take both Math and Reading.

When results become available, look beyond the overall score. Focus on:
• Performance in each skill area
• Growth between the Fall and Winter assessments
• Skills that may need additional support

MAP results provide one useful snapshot of academic progress and are best considered alongside classroom performance and other assessments.
