In a recent letter published by The Washington Post, GW Nursing Professor Richard Ricciardi argues that AI's greatest promise in health care is not replacing clinicians, but giving them more time to connect with patients.

By reducing documentation burdens, organizing information, and supporting clinical decision-making, AI can help health care professionals spend less time behind screens and more time building the trust, compassion, and human connections that improve care.

Learning by doing is at the heart of nursing education.

GW Nursing was honored to welcome GW President Ellen M. Granberg to campus as she visited an Adult-Gerontology simulation class, where undergraduate nursing students put their clinical knowledge into practice through a cardiovascular care scenario.

During the simulation, students assessed a patient experiencing new chest pain, administered medications, identified potential side effects, and provided education on reducing risk factors for heart disease. Through hands-on learning experiences like these, students strengthen their clinical judgment, technical skills, and confidence in a safe, supportive environment.

Thank you to simulation instructor Eileen Axeman for leading this engaging experience and showcasing the importance of simulation-based education at GW Nursing.

In a recent interview with DC News Now, GW Nursing professor and gun violence prevention researcher Dr. Elizabeth Choma emphasized the importance of keeping fi****ms securely stored and out of children's reach.

"Many parents mistakenly believe that their kids either don’t know where the gun is, or that if they found the gun, they would know not to play with it. That’s just not the case. Kids are curious."

As communities across the country continue to face the devastating impact of gun violence, evidence-based prevention strategies can help keep children and families safe.

For parents in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, the environment often triggers a "survival mode" that can lead to long-term post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression.

Melissa B. Jones, Ph.D. ’26, CPNP-AC, saw an opportunity to research this kind of trauma and create a path to fundamentally change the trajectory of a child’s development.
