On this special day for our Muslim families, may this pious day bring you immense joy, peace, and prosperity. Happy Eid to all families.

Your Voice Counted!
Today, the Executive Committee of VHSL received over 30K votes with over 8K comments from parents across the Commonwealth of Virginia! Thank you for taking the time to cast your selection and leave comments for our parent representative to review prior to the meeting today. It is important that decisions regarding our children have parent insight and input.
Below is the graph from the votes cast.
Early indication is VHSL has voted for Model #3 - Delay all VHSL sports and adopt the Condensed Interscholastic Plan. The season alignment would be winter sports from Dec. 14-Feb. 20, with the first contest date on Dec. 28; fall sports from Feb. 15-May 1, with the first contest date on March 1; and spring sports April 12-June 26, with the first contest date on April 26.
This is the last garden post for today. There are more zinnias available for "adoption", they are in the first photo. The second photo has several coneflowers that are still available (circled in purple), one cosmos (circled in light blue), and purslane that I posted about this afternoon (circled in orange, one of MANY plants in the garden). The third photo is most likely beefsteak, which is an herb used in Asian cooking but is considered invasive. If anyone would like the beefsteak, you are welcome to have it. It's in the square with the tall sunflower close to the brown plastic bin. Lastly, we need help with the weeding as it's gotten out of control with all of the rain we've had. The last two photos show some of the weeds - we need help pulling the weeds from the gravel and the crabgrass from anywhere in the garden beds. Our compost bins are full, so if you can help, please bring a lawn bag to take the weeds with you for yard waste pickup at your home. Thanks for your help!!!
The kindergarten squares are filled with purslane, which turns out is a superfood! My daughter's guinea pig loved the bit I brought home for her. Help yourself to some Belmont Station purslane this summer! https://dengarden.com/gardening/portulaca
dengarden.com This article will gather different facts and recipes for the wonderful purslane in hopes of boosting your appreciation of this virtuous wild plant.

In case you need a reminder! No guilt. No shame. We are all doing the best we CAN!!
Parents and guardians of students registered to attend Loudoun County Public Schools will have an opportunity to verify that the correct choice of instructional model for their students has been registered for each student, between Thursday, July 16, and 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18.
On Thursday, parents/guardians will receive emails with personalized information regarding each of their students, identifying the choice of instructional model that has been selected for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
If the choice indicated is accurate, no further action is required.
If the choice indicated is not what is desired for each student, parents/guardians should log in to ParentVUE (https://portal.lcps.org/PXP2_Login.aspx) to review their final selection and follow these steps:
1. Select the “Student Info” menu item, and click on the “Edit Information” button.
2. Using the “Distance Learning Option” drop-down menu, select the desired option.
3. Scroll down to click on the “save changes” button.
4. Repeat these steps for each child enrolled in LCPS.
Additional instructions are available here: ParentVUE Return-to-School Choices (https://www.lcps.org/Page/230311).
Parents can also send an email to their school principals or leave a voice message at their school administrative offices to request an update to their student’s record.
These options for making changes will be available until 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18. No additional changes will be accepted after 4 p.m., Saturday, July 18.
Parents/guardians who need language assistance also can call the LCPS hotline at 571-252-6499 through 5 p.m. Friday.
Final confirmation messages will be sent to parents at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 20, with the selection that will be effective for each student for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.
docs.google.com The Virginia High School League gave itself a little more time to decide the fate of fall sports. The three models being considered. Please make your selection and feel free to leave any comments.
COVID-19, social distancing, and the disruption to routines may create significant stress and impact children and families’ mental well-being. The VDOE has created a Social Emotional Wellness Quick Guide of information and resources for #EarlyLearners: http://ow.ly/WK7z50AwJpk
The deadline for parents and guardians to register their students for the type of instruction they will receive in the 2020-21 new school year is 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 15.
The options available are:
• A hybrid model of learning for students, which means a child will attend school in person for 2 days each week and will engage in distance learning the other 3 days of the week.
• 100 percent distance learning, in which a child will not attend school in person.
For LCPS to plan effectively for the start of the 2020-2021 school year, families are required to select one of these two options for how their child or children will participate in school. This will be a binding choice for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year, from the first day of school until January 15, 2021.
If a selection is not made, the student will be assigned the hybrid model.
More information about these choices and how parents or guardians should complete the selection process can be found in the Return to School Information for Parents document, available online on the LCPS Return to School 2020 website (https://www.lcps.org/ReturnToSchool2020).
HOW TO SELECT OPTIONS FOR YOUR CHILDREN: To select one of the options, a parent/guardian should log into ParentVUE, select the “Student Info” menu item, and click on the “Edit Information” button. Using the “Distance Learning Option” drop-down menu, the parent/guardian should select their desired option and scroll down to click on the “save changes” button. Parents/guardians will repeat these steps for each of their children enrolled in LCPS.
Information about how to make the selection through ParentVue is also available on the LCPS ParentVue website (https://www.lcps.org/Page/230311).

The PTA is grateful to all of our wonderful volunteers this past year!
The waystation garden has many extra zinnias, coneflowers, and cosmos plants that need new homes (or they will just go into the compost bin). We need to dig them out today, reply if you're interested. We have limited containers so it's best if you bring something to bring them home in if you'd like any. We might temporarily put them in one of the kindergarten squares for people to come and get if that makes sense.
Also, there's a TON of fresh lettuce. Please come pick some to bring home to eat. Once it goes to seed, it won't be good, and we're maybe 7-10 days from that happening. The PTA doesn't do much with the kinder-garden but we do help with weeding at times, and post reminders for people to come and pick things. There will be tomatoes (thanks to a volunteer plant growing out of the compost bin) in a few weeks, and I planted 3 tomato volunteer plants in the same square that had tomatoes last year. We might be looking for volunteers to water should things start to get hot and dry for a sustained period. We'll post here if we need to set up a watering schedule like in years past.
See the photo comments for locations of available flower plants.
