On August 9th, International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we honor the ancestors whose wisdom still lives in the way we care for mothers, babies, families, and communities. 🤎🌿

Long before maternal health became a healthcare specialty, Indigenous communities held generations of knowledge around pregnancy, birth, postpartum healing, breastfeeding, herbal medicine, nourishment, movement, and community-centered care.

We remember the Indigenous women, mothers, healers, midwives, and birth workers who endured colonization, displacement, violence, forced assimilation, and the suppression of their traditional practices.

But their stories are not only stories of what they endured.

They are stories of wisdom. Strength. Resistance. Survival.

Despite generations of attempts to erase Indigenous knowledge, so much of that wisdom continues to live through families, traditional birth workers, community practices, and the belief that pregnancy and birth deserve to be surrounded by dignity, culture, family, and care.

Today, as we work toward better maternal health outcomes, we also recognize that progress does not always mean creating something new.

Sometimes, it means remembering what our ancestors already knew.

We honor those who came before us.
We honor the knowledge they protected.
We honor the mothers who carried generations forward.
And we honor Indigenous communities who continue preserving these traditions today. 🌿

Our ancestors endured so much so their wisdom could still have a future.

Across Indigenous communities, generations of women, healers, and traditional birth workers held knowledge about:
Pregnancy and birth
Breastfeeding
Postpartum healing
Nutrition and medicinal plants
Movement and birth positioning
Family and community support

Colonization tried to silence more than people. It tried to silence knowledge.
Indigenous communities endured displacement, violence, forced assimilation, exploitation, and suppression of cultural and healing traditions.
Traditional approaches to pregnancy, birth, and healing were often dismissed or replaced by coloni

Many organizations want to serve Latino and immigrant communities — but meaningful engagement requires trust, cultural understanding, language access, and consistent presence in the community. 💜

At Coaching Salud Holistica, we partner with organizations, healthcare entities, schools, and community programs to provide culturally responsive outreach, health education, and resource navigation in both English and Spanish.

Our team helps bridge the gap between programs and the communities they are trying to reach through trusted relationship-building, grassroots engagement, and community-centered approaches.

No todas las vitaminas prenatales son iguales. 🤰💊
