The Fluency Awesomizer

The Fluency Awesomizer Insights about learning to read English in the Tech Age, based on research I've done as an elementary teacher in the 21st century.

This research has lead me to invent a tool called The Fluency Awesomizer, which I'm hoping to get out into the world!

Do you know an impatient reader in grades 4-8 (or higher) who tends to guess the big words, which might be keeping them from progressing beyond a 4th or 5th grade reading level? Show them the first 30 seconds of this video and see what happens!🧐

Today's 8-minute video (episode 2 revised) starts with a pre-assessment passage then reviews 5 words from that passage, including an explanation why the letters TI (t-eye) sometimes sound like "SH." I use animations of strategies to help improve decoding skills as well as the phonology, morphology, etymology and/or syllabication of each word, all to help your child or student build their imagination so they can more easily recall this information when reading independently or when they need to spell these words.

My video lessons are designed for young readers in grades 4-8 (and beyond) who are having trouble decoding big words, which might be preventing them from attaining or progressing beyond a 4th or 5th-grade reading level - which just might be the primary cause of low scores on assessments. If yours tends to guess big words or is an impatient reader, these videos are sure to help!

Please share this video and page with any struggling readers you may know! I have lots of helpful and brief videos here and at my YouTube channel too, which is an easy way to access them all. I recommend you subscribe to my channel here...

I consider today's video (episode 118) a very rare double episode - at almost 12 minutes it's the longest yet but it's LOADED with great stuff. It starts with a pre-assessment passage, then reviews 5 words from that passage including a chat about the letter Q and a mini-lesson on open and closed syllables (with a mnemonic device.) I use animations of strategies to help improve decoding skills as well as the phonology, morphology, etymology and/or syllabication of each word, all to help your child or student build their imagination so they can more easily recall this information when reading independently or when they need to spell these words.
