Which Alight family are you?

🏡 THE HOMESCHOOL FAMILY

You love homeschooling and you’re not looking to give it up.

But maybe your kid wants more friends.
Or you’re tired of trying to provide every subject, activity, lab, club, teacher, and social opportunity yourself.

You want to keep the freedom of homeschool and borrow the parts of school that are actually useful.

Tuesday mornings are therapy.
Thursday afternoons are soccer.

Some kids just need to make stuff.

They need to paint it, build it, sew it, cook it, take it apart, and probably make a giant mess in the process.

Somewhere along the way, we started treating this kind of work as the fun stuff kids get to do after they finish learning.

I think we have that backwards.

Kids learn an awful lot when we give them something real to make.

I was reading The Baby-Sitters Club to my daughter, and one of the characters was taking art and pottery classes in the evenings and on weekends because she didn’t have time for them at school.

And I thought: that’s weird.

A child can have an obvious aptitude for ceramics, music, engineering, theater, woodworking—whatever it is—and the system essentially says:

Your gift is extracurricular.

First, spend most of your waking hours completing the standardized curriculum everyone else your age completes.

Then, if your family has the money, transportation, time, and awareness, you can develop the thing you’re unusually good at.

We’ve gotten so used to this that it barely registers as strange.

But why is developing a child’s particular gifts something we squeeze in around their education?

There’s a middle ground.

Keep the parts you love. Let us take a few things off your plate.

Maybe that’s Robotics because you don’t own a robot. 😂
Maybe it’s Guitar because nobody at home plays.
Maybe it’s Math because you are DONE teaching math.

One class. A couple mornings. A full schedule.

Big week ahead at Alight! 🎉

We’re getting closer to our very first day, and there are three big dates coming up as we get our new space ready, welcome our families, and officially kick off Alight’s first year.

🛠️ FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 — Founding Family Work Day

We have so many families who are deeply committed to the mission of Alight, and many of y’all have been asking if you could come help us set up the space as we move into another wing.

We finally had enough people ask that we decided we should make a day of it!

Come work alongside us as we clean, organize, arrange classrooms, set up the library and maker spaces, and get everything ready for our kids. It’s also a chance to meet your students’ teachers and Alight staff, get to know other families, and be part of bringing the space to life.

Come for an hour or stay longer—there’s absolutely no expectation to participate. This is simply an invitation for everyone who has been asking how they can help.

🍦 SATURDAY, AUGUST 29 — Launch Party, Orientation + Ice Cream Social

Then it’s time to celebrate!

Bring the whole family to see the finished space, meet teachers, find classrooms, learn what to expect at Alight, connect with other families—and, of course, eat some ice cream.

Whether you’re already an Alight family, considering Alight, or have simply been cheering us on, we’d love to celebrate with you.

🚀 TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 — Our First Day!

And then we begin.

Our classrooms open, our students arrive, and the very first year of Alight Learning Community officially gets underway.

You have not missed the window.

If the first few weeks of school have already confirmed what you suspected—that your child needs more movement, more hands-on learning, or simply a different kind of school day—you still have options.

Alight enrolls throughout the year, and families can choose exactly what they need: one class, a few classes, or a fuller weekly schedule.

Here’s what learning at Alight can look like:
— Robotics, sewing, cooking, theater, music, art, leadership, and more

— Math, science, history, literature, and writing taught through discussion, projects, experimentation, and meaningful work

— Small classes where teachers actually know your child

— Time to move, make things, collaborate, read, explore, and be outside

— A Christ-centered community without requiring kids to sit at a desk all day

Ages 3–18. Classes begin September 8 in Arlington.

For the kid who has something to say.

Knowing things matters.

Knowing how to communicate what you know, work with different kinds of people, handle disagreement, and lead well matters too.

In Leadership + Communication, students practice the skills they'll use everywhere: speaking clearly, listening well, collaborating, navigating conflict, understanding people, and becoming the kind of leader others want to follow.

And they're learning from someone who has actually done this work.

Dan is a veteran HR professional who has advised Fortune 500 companies and now teaches communication at Dallas Baptist University.

This isn't leadership from a textbook.

It's practice for real life.

Alight is looking for local instructors, makers, wellness professionals, and creatives who want to activate classes and experiences for adults in our space.

We’re building a Homeschool Parent Club alongside our learning community—a place where parents can connect, learn something new, make things, move their bodies, and have a little time that isn’t centered around teaching their kids.

We’d love to hear from people interested in offering things like:

• Pilates, mobility, or fitness
• Art, watercolor, pottery, or other creative workshops
• Sewing, embroidery, crochet, or fiber arts
• Gardening or floral workshops
• Cooking, baking, or sourdough
• Photography or creative skills
• Parenting or family education
• Personal finance, entrepreneurship, or professional skills
• Book clubs, discussion groups, or other community experiences

Have another idea? We’re open to it.

Alight provides the space and an existing community of local families. You bring something you're great at and want to share.

Classes can be one-time workshops or recurring offerings, and we're open to different partnership/revenue models.
