Are you ready for the Morven McRae Reunion? Hello Alumni, Family and Friends! Happy Spring to you all!



For the last several months we’ve been working diligently to find the ideal host city for the 2019 Reunion. After receiving several proposals and considering several cities from Charlotte, to the beach, and back to the mountains, we are pleased to announce that the 2019 reunion will be held in North Carolina’s Twin-City Quarter, Winston – Salem on Labor Day Weekend (August 30 – September 1) at the Marriott Downtown.



REUNION ACTIVITIES

The 2019 Morven McRae Reunion will include a Friday evening social and a Saturday banquet with the opportunity to explore the vibrant downtown Winston Salem. The city’s center is experiencing a transformation with new restaurants, specialty shops, a budding Arts District and the development of NC’s Technology & Innovation Center. Within walking distance of our host hotel, you will find great dining choices from Southern food to Italian cuisine and BBQ. The “New” downtown includes art galleries and studios featuring West African dance and drumming workshops, independent bookstores and yoga centers. The Twin City offers something for everyone!

Beyond the hotel, our weekend plans include a Saturday group tour of the International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ISRC&M) in downtown Greensboro. The museum is a national landmark and the site of the 1960 Woolworth sit-ins, the nonviolent protests which were the catalyst of the civil rights movement. Also included are visits to the local HBCU Winston Salem State University and St. Phillips African Moravian Church, built in 1861 and the site of North Carolina’s oldest standing African American church.

REGISTRATION FEES



The registration fee for this year’s reunion will be $65.00 per person.

The fee and enclosed registration form are due to the committee by July 31, 2019.



HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS

Our reunion will be held at the Marriott Downtown, Winston-Salem, located in the heart of the Twin City Quarter. The newly renovated hotel offers a fantastic downtown location, complimentary Wi-Fi, 24-hour health club and discounted overnight parking. The guest room rate for our reunion group is $110.00 per night for a 2 Queen or King Guest Room. We have reserved a room block for the nights of August 30 & 31st and the rate is available to our group for the two days prior to and after the event if you choose to extend your visit to the Twin City Quarter. The deadline to complete your hotel reservations is July 31, 2019. To guarantee your accommodations we encourage everyone to complete their reservations early.



SATURDAY TOUR – INTERNATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS MUSUEM & CENTER (ICRM&C)

Saturday’s activities will include a group tour of the International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ISRC&M) located in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina. Our group will travel by charter bus service to the museum for a 3-hour visit. You may take the time to explore the museum’s archives, galleries and exhibits including the original lunch counter and stools where the “Greensboro Four” began their protest on February 1, 1960. There will be time for you to visit the surrounding downtown area for a little shopping or a quick lunch. Traveling back to our hotel, the bus will make short stops (15 to 30 minutes at each site) to visit Winston Salem State University (WSSU), a Top 10 HBCU; and, St. Phillips African Moravian Church. Built in 1861, it is the oldest standing African American Church building in North Carolina and the only historic African Monrovian congregation in the United States.



We are currently working to close the contract with the transportation service company. We estimated a nominal fee of $20.00 per person to cover both admission and transportation services to and from the museum. If you would like to attend, please complete Section 10 of the registration form. The tour group will leave the hotel mid Saturday morning and return by 3pm. Exact departure and return times will be provided at Friday’s check-in.

To remember your weekend with your classmates and family we are offering the 2019 Reunion commemorative polo shirts. The polo (collared short-sleeve shirt) designed in the school colors of blue & yellow with our signature lion emblem to recognize the spirit Morven McRae High School are available for pre-order. Complete your polo order in Section 9 of the attached registration form. Don’t miss out on our new look, please take the time to order your polo now as only a minimal number of shirts will be offered Labor Day Weekend. All pre-ordered polo shirts will be available for pick-up on Friday, check-in day.
