Known as the “Lily of Quito,” St. Mariana de Jesús is the patron saint of Ecuador. Born in Quito to a noble but humble family, Mariana was orphaned at a young age and raised by her older sister. From childhood, she had a deep love for prayer, fasting, and helping the poor. Known for her quiet strength and deep devotion, she offered her life to God during a plague to save her city.

A young saint of great faith and sacrifice.

Mejor conocida como “El Lirio de Quito,” Santa Mariana de Jesús Paredes es la Patrona del Ecuador. Nacida en Quito en una familia noble pero sencilla, Mariana quedó huérfana siendo niña y fue criada por su hermana mayor. Desde pequeña mostró un profundo amor por la oración, el ayuno y el servicio a los pobres. Conocida por su fuerza silenciosa y devoción profunda, ofreció su vida a Dios durante una epidemia para salvar a su ciudad.

Despite health challenges, he joyfully embraced his role as a lay leader, rekindling love for Holy Week and the Easter Vigil across the island. His life reminds us: we are Easter people, filled with hope and joy!
