OIT has introduced UTA's first electric vehicle (EV), supporting more sustainable and efficient campus operations. Industry estimates show EVs can cut maintenance costs by 30–50%, and OIT will evaluate these benefits in real‑world use to help inform future campus decisions. The EV will be used for frequent equipment deliveries across campus.

“This reflects our belief that sustainability should be part of everyday work,” said Chris Cox, Director of OIT Infrastructure Operations. “We want to set a precedent for responsible, data‑driven decision‑making.”

Safer Internet Day aims to not only create a safer internet but also a better internet, where everyone is empowered to use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively.

Each of us plays a role in shaping the online world we want to see. By staying mindful of digital wellbeing, practicing ethical tech use, and thinking critically about issues like social media regulation, we can help create a more positive digital space for all.

Together, we can make the internet safer.

Today we're shining a spotlight on Valerie Ozigbo, a sophomore computer science major at the University of Texas at Arlington. She has worked with OIT as a student technical assistant since April.

She is the current president of herScript, an organization at UTA dedicated to supporting black women interested in technology. She also serves as the head of recruitment for the Society of Women Engineers and is an active member of both the National Society of Black Engineers and Management Leaders of Tomorrow.

“I love how [OIT] gives me the opportunity to work on things related to my field," Valerie said. "During the summer I was able to install some of the WiFi access points while climbing a ladder and installing the WiFi. I never expected to do that but it was fun and it was an experience and I liked it.”

After graduation, Valerie hopes to pursue a career in data, information technology or product management.

“I see myself just doing something meaningful, being part of a project that's going to help people in their day-to-day lives,” she said.

We appreciate all your hard work and all you contribute to OIT, Valerie!
