Coach Jarvis Varnado's role at Arlington High is growing! Already leading the AHS girls basketball program, Varnado has now been named head coach of the Tigers boys basketball team, putting both programs under his leadership.

"Coach Varnado has already made an impact with our girls program," said AHS Principal Chris Davis. "He's already helping create opportunities for our players and getting college recruitment conversations started because that's important for kids who want to play at the next level. He's a players' coach who will push them, support them and help them reach their goals. He's connected and plugged into the next-level basketball scene, and he's someone who can help our players be successful both here at Arlington and beyond."

The 6-foot-10 former NCAA and NBA champion said he's excited to lead both programs and establish a consistent standard for Tiger basketball.

"Some people may think it's a lot of work, but I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity," Varnado said. "I love basketball, and I love helping young people reach their full potential. I want to set a standard for Arlington basketball. We're going to work really hard, and we're going to push ourselves, but we're going to have a lot of fun while we're at it. We'll keep grinding every day."
