10-year-old Maryland girl born without hands wins national handwriting competition Sara, a third-grade student in Frederick, Maryland, writes by gripping the pencil or pen with both of her arms. She loves to create art and sees writing cursive — for which she won the award — as an extension of art.

Attention Artists! The Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, Maryland, is accepting entries for the 2018 National Juried Exhibit through Monday, March 26. All media are eligible. Laura Amussen, Director of Exhibitions and Curator at Goucher College's Rosenberg and Silber Galleries, and an educator at Towson University, will serve as exhibit juror. Prizes will be awarded: First Place – $500; Second Place – $350; Third Place – $200; and Honorable Mention – $100.

Important Dates:
Deadline for Entries – Monday, March 26, 2018
Exhibition Dates – May 5, 2018 through June 20, 2018
Reception – Saturday, May 5, 3-5 pm (attendance not required)
