ArtStarts is a unique art program for children offering classes in Northern Virginia.

As a lifelong lover of the arts and now a mom of 2 young children, I value the creative process and believe that the arts can inspire our children to grow creatively.

Just made 4 batches of slime while my kiddos slept - I had to practice, right? Let me know if you need any tips! I used Discount School Supply clear glue and also their liquid water colors for brilliant jewel tones!

What Music Should My Child Listen To? . Music & Arts . Education | PBS Parents 02/21/2014

I'm so glad I came across this article. My kids (5 and 3) just listened to the narrated portion of Peter and the Wolf - they were entranced. I also used some pieces from Carnival of the Animals in a recent dance class I taught. Both excellent works that encourage children to really listen to the music and not just the lyrics. When they are not distracted by lyrics, they can more easily allow their bodies to sway, jump, run, stomp, or soar to the music.

What Music Should My Child Listen To? . Music & Arts . Education | PBS Parents From the Beatles hits to the Curious George theme song, all children love music. Browse through some helpful tips for creating and expanding an appropriate musical library for your child.

These are adorable! I can't wait to try these with my kids. They will be so sweet in the garden.

ADORE these Grass Caterpilla's that FB reader Wend C did with her Garden Group. Aren't they simply BRILLIANT.

She shared how she made them and let me put the info here: http://www.redtedart.com/2014/02/17/grass-caterpillars/

LOVE THEM! A great activity for any Hungry Caterpillar fans!

We love anything involving rainbows in our house! This is also a great activity that can teach kids about sorting (an early learning skill that they will use in Kindergarten!)

We love our Rainbow Discovery Bottles - they are on display in our playroom and both kids STILL play with them, amazingly! Here's the post with the details on how we made them:

Kids Use Art for Self Expression 10/20/2013

M has just started drawing on a regular basis. Here he is using it to tell a story and express and understand feelings. While he and his sister love each other, these drawings accurately express how he feels about it when they don't get along! I love that he can draw this and tell me about it.

Artisphere Family Fun Day 10/14/2013

We had a blast at the Artisphere Family Fun Day yesterday! The kids enjoyed a fabulous pop art project, Andy Warhol's Silver Clouds, and button making. You should definitely try to see the Silver Clouds before it leaves! The last day is October 20th!

Rainy day activity - painting our initials. Upon applying the yellow, M declared "it's disappearing...I made green!" All those process comments paid off! By occasionally offering comments during their creative process, you help children to develop the vocabulary they need to describe what they are doing.
