Since September 11, 2001, more than 2.2 million Americans have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and over 40,000 have been wounded and nearly 6,000 have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. American troops have served in Iraq or Afghanistan and thousands have been deployed multiple times. It is only fitting that we have government programs to serve our troops. Bush starts new project to help vets, says 'I'm here with them' George W. Bush, who as president led the United States into wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, said Sunday he’s now helping veterans try to successfully re-enter the workforce and other aspects of civilian life.
