Honoring the brave while building the leaders of tomorrow.
Last night, our club gathered for a deeply moving and powerful meeting as we paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Since Monday was officially Memorial Day, we observed the occasion during our weekly Tuesday night meeting, creating a space for profound reflection, history, and raw emotion.
🎙️ The Toastmaster of the Evening
Our meeting was expertly led by Lorenzo Narvaez. Lorenzo wove meaningful, real-world letters throughout the entire evening, driving home the deep, lasting impact that war has on loved ones back home. His guidance set a beautiful, respectful tone that reminded us all of the power of words.
🎤 Veteran Tributes: Letters from the Front Lines
In a profoundly moving segment, three of our club's veterans—Bob Conrad, Seth Moses, and Mark Lindsley—each stepped up to the lectern to read a real letter sent home from the front lines. Rather than delivering traditional speeches, they let the raw, unfiltered emotions of those historical words take center stage, sharing their unique perspective on the weight each letter carried. The room was captivated by the raw vulnerability in the room as these snapshots of history brought the reality of service and sacrifice to life.
⚡ Table Topics & Spontaneity
Our Table Topics session focused heavily on the themes of hope and reflection. Members and guests stepped up to think on their feet, sharing spontaneous stories about resilience and remembrance.
During the session, a powerful observation was made: the art of letter writing is becoming a lost art form. Unlike a quick one-liner text or a social media comment, a handwritten letter is a beautiful snapshot in time. Last night reminded us just how special it is to receive a tangible piece of someone's heart.
🕊️ A Time for Reflection
In observance of Memorial Day, we chose to forgo our traditional voting for "best of" awards during this meeting. Instead, we used that time to open the floor, allowing members and guests alike to reflect openly on what those front-line letters meant to them and how deeply the evening's messages resonated.
While it was an emotional night, it was a profoundly needed reminder of why we gather in freedom.

Last night’s meeting was a high-energy Open House with a full house of 20 people in attendance! Our theme, P.I.E. Day, wasn't just about the treats; it was about being enthusiastic, energetic, and lively in everything we do. We proved that growth and leadership are always better when served with a side of fun.
Our Toastmaster of the evening, Mark Lindsley, set the perfect tone by leaning into the theme with a collection of fun facts and "zesty" dad jokes about pie. His humor kept the energy high and reminded us that whether we’re meeting in person in Arlington or connecting via Zoom, a little wit is the secret ingredient to a truly memorable presentation.
🌟 Speaker Highlights
Donnisha Hebert delivered a powerful presentation titled "Successful Club Series." She addressed a fundamental truth that resonated with everyone in the room: nobody walks into Toastmasters fully confident. Donnisha shared how our club provides the safe, supportive space needed to navigate that initial discomfort and transform it into the polished leadership skills we see today.
Lorenzo Narvaez captivated us with his speech, "Reflect on Your Path." As he nears the completion of his Presentation Mastery path, Lorenzo shared an evocative retrospective on his journey. His story was a moving reminder of the incredible distance a person can travel when they commit to continuous improvement and self-reflection.
Mark English, Area 41 Director, joined us as a guest speaker and took us on a true storytelling adventure. He made a passionate, high-energy case for the existence of Bigfoot, demonstrating exactly how to weave mystery and enthusiasm into a compelling narrative. His delivery was a masterclass in engaging an audience's imagination.
🎤 Spontaneity & Fun
The Table Topics session, led by Carmen Lindsley, was truly the cherry on top! Carmen brought incredible creativity to our impromptu speaking segment by having participants pull a paper "pie slice" question out of a Domino’s Pizza box. Guests and members alike jumped into the hot seat, navigating these unexpected prompts with quick wit. It was the perfect way to show our 20 attendees how we turn the "fear" of public speaking into a fun, supportive exercise.

Are you ready to steep yourself in excellence? ☕️
Our latest Toastmasters meeting was as comforting and energizing as a perfect brew! Celebrating National Tea Day, we explored how to build a robust presence—ensuring our communication remains strong, healthy, and vigorous in every situation.
But since we are in Texas, we had to serve up something special: a double dose of Iced Tea! 🧊☕️ We were treated to not one, but two refreshing ICE BREAKER speeches that cooled the nerves and warmed our hearts.
Our Toastmaster of the evening, Darlene Roberts, infused the room with energy. From tea jokes to seamless coordination, Darlene showed that a well-organized meeting is the foundation for growth.
Speaker Highlights
Yashia Marshall – "Stepping Stones: How Life Events Shaped My Path Forward"
Yashia kicked off our "Iced Tea" special by breaking the ice with a masterclass in clarity. She walked us through the pivotal moments that have shaped her path, proving that every challenge is just a stepping stone to a more robust future.
Carmen Lindsley – "Bongiorno"
The "newbie" phase is officially over! After 324 days of dedicated service, Carmen finally "chilled" her nerves to deliver her Ice Breaker. She stepped into the spotlight to share the unique story of visiting Italy.
Mark Lindsley
Mark gave us a front-row seat to a major family milestone! As his son, Cairo, prepares to get married this weekend, Mark practiced his actual "Father of the Groom" toast. It was a heartwarming preview, proving that Toastmasters is perfect for the moments that matter most in life.
The Table Topics session really turned up the heat! Members and guests were challenged to think on their feet with impromptu prompts related to our tea theme. It was a fantastic display of quick wit, proving that some of the best insights happen when you’re put on the spot.
Toastmasters is where we refine the skills that make us better leaders and more confident communicators. Whether you are looking to polish a wedding toast or lead a boardroom, there is a seat at the table (and a cup of tea) waiting for you!

Are you ready to think on your feet? 🎤
This Tuesday evening, we dove headfirst into the art of off the cuff speaking.
Our Toastmaster, Lorenzo Narvaez, showed us how to give short but memorable speeches.
Tracie shattered the ice with her debut speech, "The Eldest".
She painted a vivid picture of life as the oldest sibling in her family.
The high expectations, the responsibility of setting the example, but also the unexpected upsides.
Mark owned the stage with his speech "Reviving I Get To".
He shared the evolution of his public speaking journey, explaining how consistent practice and feedback built the muscle memory to speak with ease.
He taught us that no matter what is in your rucksack, embracing "I get to" can help you face the challenges of life with courage.
Table Topics served up a mix of spontaneous stories from explaining a disastrous report card to reading between the lines to find the truth.
Then Lorenzo took things up a notch:
He brought members up for a story round, where each person continued a story from where the previous speaker left off.
It was a blast watching our members keep the story fresh, inventing new twists and turns with a little help from some four legged friends.
Candidly, learning to go with the flow of a conversation takes effort, but a little practice goes a long way.
🏆 Congratulations to our winners!

Spring is in the air! 🌱
Tuesday evening, we celebrated the splendor of springtime and all the growth it brings.
Our Toastmaster, Isaiah, opened with a reflection on how spring is a season of change, renewal, and fresh beginnings.
Darlene then gave an timely presentation for our budding new members, walking them through the process of giving their first icebreaker speech, accessing Basecamp, and selecting their Pathways.
A perfect topic for a season of first steps.
Spring is also about going with the flow and rolling with whatever life brings your way. That spirit carried into our Table Topics session, where we explored:
- Enjoying nature through hikes and cycling
- The odds and ends of spring cleaning
- The brilliance of sunflowers
- Visiting beaches in South America
We also welcomed a new member to our club and enjoyed delicious sandwich rolls and refreshments, generously provided by Darlene. (Thank you!)
Springtime is an invitation to be open to new opportunities and experiences.
🏆 Congratulations to our winners!
