A sailing center open house is a fantastic
opportunity for individuals of all ages and
experience levels to explore the world of sailing
and paddle sports. This event is designed to
introduce the community to the joys and benefits
of sailing and paddle sports whether you're a
novice or a seasoned sailor. During an open
house, attendees can tour the facilities, meet
experienced instructors, and learn about available
courses and programs. The sailing center will
even offer complimentary short sails, allowing
visitors to experience the thrill of being out on the
water firsthand. It's a wonderful way to connect
with like-minded enthusiasts, ask questions, and
discover how sailing and paddle sports can
become a rewarding hobby or competitive sport.

The 2025 RS Aero Texas State Championship was held on November 8 & 9 at Lake Canyon Yacht Club in New Braunfels, Texas — deep in the heart of South Texas.

We headed out to Saturday races in a light breeze of 5 mph, but just as the starting horn sounded, the wind shut off almost completely. The fleet managed to complete only one leg, which started as windward and then shifted 180 degrees. The race committee made the right call to finish at the first mark, making an early end to a frustrating day on the water.

Sunday, however, brought a total reversal. The wind filled in from the north at 20 mph, with gusts reaching into the upper 30s from every direction. Although all other fleets, including Sunfish and Flying Scott, returned to shore without starting any races, the hardiest of our Aero group along with a few ILCA’s hung in there to complete two— a true test of stamina and sailing skill.

We extend many thanks to Lake Canyon Yacht Club for their hospitality and perseverance in running the event under such tough conditions.

Congratulations to the top finishers:

1st Place - Buff Wendt, Michigan City Yacht Club
2nd Place - Flip Myerson, Bristol Yacht Club
3rd Place - Magdalena Chavez, Viridian Sailing Club

There was talk that we could schedule races during the winter season every Saturday afternoon at 2 pm, to be held only if temperatures are higher than 60 degrees and wind is hospitable. Please let us know if you think a weekly winter race plan would work for you!
