While Jay Adams published over 100 books during his lifetime, he wrote even more, that, for one reason or another, never found their way into print. We are pleased Dr. Adams left us this wonderfully helpful book that biblical counselors will find meets an important need, and will serve to help with important problems counselors face regularly.

Effective biblical counseling requires more than compassion and biblical knowledge— it requires discernment. Counselors are regularly confronted with these, and other questions, about their counselees:

What presuppositions has he embraced before entering the counseling room?

Is he understanding what you are teaching?
Is he equipped to do the homework that you've assigned?
Is he really sincere in his stated desire to change?
Is his repentance genuine?
Is he trying to manipulate you or others?

God tested Abraham. Jesus tested the rich young ruler. Jay Adams urges counselors do the same with their counselees. In Putting Counselees to the Test, he has given us a practical guide to discernment in the counseling room.
