With the theme "Reading Saves the Day," Alexandria's Polk Elementary held a literacy night, complete with literacy games and activities, reading corners, and books from RIF NOVA's Donated Books collection. Graphic novels were the first to go! In the classrooms, teachers read stories, and kids did projects related to the book they had heard. Huge shoutout to The Bookmark Project! This student-led team from Yorktown High School is expanding book access across the DMV. "We collect book donations and host events where volunteers create bookmarks to make reading more special," said Scarlett Koch and Kelsey Rucker.

Thanks to a partnership with Village Sweet Bakery, their latest book drive collected 1,400+ books for RIF NOVA! 🎉📚 We are so grateful! These books will find new homes with new readers!

Mark your calendars! Pete the Cat is always a top choice for children during book distributions at Reading Is Fundamental of Northern Virginia schools and community events! Bards Alley Bookshop Pete the Cat

Get excited! Original Pete the Cat author and musician Eric Litwin will be visiting the Haymarket Gainesville Library on Monday, September 28th at 11am. Bards Alley will be on site selling copies of Litwin's titles -- some Pete the Cat in addition to some non-Pete books! -- and a book signing will follow the event.

This will be a super interactive, song-filled event with an emphasis on creative movement, positivity, and resilience great for readers aged 3-8.
