We're starting a periodic feature where we talk to some of the Write Club: Creative Writing Group at UTA members who're pursuing creative writing through UTA English. Today, we talk to Shawna Jones.
Q: How did you start writing?
SJ: So I started writing cause when I was really little. I loved to tell stories, and then I learned to read...I learned I could write, and I just progressed from there, and I love it.
Q: When you have writer’s block, what helps you alleviate it?
SJ: Trying a different topic or looking at it from a different angle.
Q:Have you given any thoughts towards graduate school for an MFA in Creative Writing?
SJ: I have given lots of thoughts towards it, and I think that it would be good, but I would have to wait and see.
Q:Have the Creative Writing Classes here at UTA provided you a significant amount of help to your writing process?
SJ: Yes, they give me a way to understand how not only I think but how other writers think and how people who are just reading think.
Q: What would you say to people who are on the fence about taking a creative writing class or joining write club?
SJ: I'd say to give it a shot. Sometimes, you might think something is wrong or something is bad and be proven wrong, and I think giving something a chance lets you experience something that otherwise you wouldn't.
