As the new Texas Classroom Commission begins its work, 10 Teach Plus Texas Fellows and Alumni are bringing their classroom experience to the table.

⭐️ They know what policies look like once they reach a school.
⭐️ They know what students need.
⭐️ They know what teachers need to stay, grow, and lead.

And now, they’ll help bring that perspective into conversations about the future of Texas public education.

Because teachers shouldn't just experience the consequences of education policy.

Teachers should help shape it. 🩵

🌎 What if learning a language could also teach students how to understand the world?

Teach Plus Texas Senior Policy Fellow and Riesel ISD teacher Karla Guevara was recently honored with a 2025 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award by Humanities Texas.

Through storytelling, hands-on projects, and literary analysis, Karla helps students see language as more than something we speak. It’s a window into history, identity, culture, and the human experience.

Beyond the classroom, Karla is growing her school’s Spanish program, expanding access to humanities education, mentoring first-year teachers, and serving as a Teacher Leader and UIL director.

Congratulations, Karla! We’re proud to see your extraordinary work recognized. 👏

Across Texas, educators shared what's helping students connect classroom learning to future careers, and where schools need stronger systems, better support, and smarter policy.

Those insights became Teaching Towards Tomorrow. ✨

Built from conversations with more than 600 Texas educators, the report offers practical recommendations to strengthen career-connected teaching and learning so every student has access to classrooms where learning leads to opportunity.

Today we are honored to be named a finalist for the 2026 PIE Network Eddie Award for Best Defense along with Texas 2036, The Commit Partnership, The Education Trust in Texas , Foundation for Excellence in Education , and Center for Strong Public Schools.

This recognition celebrates advocacy that protects policies helping students succeed, even when the path isn't easy.

Together, we protected transparent, standards-based reporting on how Texas schools and students are performing. That means families, educators, and policymakers can make informed decisions, target resources where they're needed most, and continue working to close achievement and opportunity gaps for 5.4 million Texas students.
