Dr. Joan Reinhardt has served the UTA community for an incredible 30 years, most recently as the director of the UTA McNair Scholars Program. She retires at the end of this month and will be missed at UTA, but her work in promoting the success of underrepresented students will continue to impact future generations!

Michelle Bui (Physics/Math), Jackie Baeza-Rubio (Physics), Chris McDaniels (Biology), and Curtis Kizer-Pugh (Physics/Math) earned top honors from the Friends of the UTA Library for their summer research papers. Jackie Baeza-Rubio (Physics) was awarded the Kathryn A. Head Scholarship for her outstanding commitment to her research and the goals of the McNair Scholars Program. She is an author on a peer-reviewed publication in the Journal of Instrumentation and has presented her work at the Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics. Jackie works with faculty mentor Dr. Ben Jones.

Ephrem Kejela works at home during his McNair summer research internship, supervised remotely by faculty mentor Dr. Alan Bowling. Ephrem is conducting a dynamic analysis of a hexapod robot on uneven surfaces using AUTOLEV and MATLAB.
Ephrem is an Aerospace Engineering major with a minor in Mechanical Engineering.

McNair Scholar Efret Ghirmazion completed her bachelor's in nursing this spring and is already a co-author in a peer-reviewed journal. Efret plans to pursue a PhD in nursing research after gaining experience in the field. Congratulations, Efret! You are amazing!

The UTA community was blessed to have her all to ourselves for a while, but her research aspirations will take her to Yale soon.
UTA McNair Scholar Kenya Loudd completes her undergraduate degree this month in Interdisciplinary Studies with minors in African American Studies and Disability Studies. She has been fully funded for her PhD program at Yale and will work with Dr. Coraline Roberts, a noted scholar in the areas of African Diaspora and History of Science/Medicine.

McNair Scholar Daisy Estrada inspired so many in her three years at UTA. She graduated this spring with double degrees in History and Psychology (Minor in Neuroscience). This fall, she will begin her PhD program fully funded at Stony Brook U in New York. Daisy will work with Distinguished Professor Dr. Suparna Rajaram’s Social Memory and Cognition Lab at Stony Brook U.
We will miss you and your beautiful smile, Daisy, and know that you will accomplish great things!
