Why did our students choose IB Literature? Listen to what Mrs. Robert’s students have to say about this fantastic class!

Did you know that IB Literature is a 2-year English program at Arlington High that values caring, cultured, and determined students? Any student can take the two-year program. Our IB students take both of our IB exams (87% pass rate over 10 years), and more than 80% will also take AND PASS both AP English exams their junior year. That’s triple the potential for college credit!

Our C**t Kindness Crew was at it again last week! 💙

During our meeting, students practiced mindfulness, talked through worries and stressors, and took some time to reflect on how the school year is going so far.

We ended with one simple question:

What’s one small move you can make that might make a difference in the life of someone else—or in your own life?

Their answers reminded us that making a difference doesn’t always require a grand gesture. Sometimes, the smallest choices can have a meaningful impact.

Our C**t Kindness Crew is made up of students who are taking—or planning to take—a majority of IB classes, building not only strong academic skills but also the reflection, empathy, and awareness that are such an important part of the IB experience.

Our Advanced Academics Ambassadors' table at this year's C**t County Fair was all about encouragement. Students and parents stopped by, left notes of encouragement for others, or picked up a pep talk for themselves. Students who take advanced classes will face challenges, and we want them to know that they really can Handle Hard Better!

Bowie High School IB Film teachers Allie Shaffer and Sean McGinty met with the AHS IB Film 2 students to discuss the Collaborative Film Project with them. Working in teams of three, the students are planning their first major film for the year, with each student taking on at least one of five roles: Director, Cinematographer, Screenwriter, Editor, Sound Designer. Ms. Shaffer and Mr. McGinty also asked the students about their experience last year as IB Film 1 students, hoping to get some ideas of what worked and what would have helped more as they prepare to teach the BHS Film students this year. **ts

📚 Mrs. Carden’s IB English class is halfway through Wuthering Heights and decided to share some of their favorite quotes so far!

As they finish the novel, students will dive deeper into Gothic literature and wrap up the unit by creating a Byronic hero analysis. 🖤🌫️

Today, the C**t Kindness Collective held its first meeting of the year, focusing on the IB mission of helping to create a better and more peaceful world.

Students divided into groups by skill and trait, then brainstormed ways they can bring kindness to our schools and communities. It was exciting to see their ideas, enthusiasm, and commitment to making a positive difference.

Ms. Boutilier and Mrs. Carden can’t wait to see all the wonderful things the C**t Kindness Collective accomplishes this year!
