Welcome to Children’s House Montessori School, known as CHMS, a Montessori preschool serving children in Arlington, Va from two years of age to six years of age. In 2000, Children’s House Montessori School opened its doors to its first preschoolers and our Head of School, Denise Touma, assumed the Head of School position. Today, CHMS has grown to four Montessori preschool classrooms and one Montessori toddler classroom. Our 18 teachers and teachers assistants, from across the Globe, serve to help your child flourish in our Montessori environment. Many teachers have taught at CHMS for at least 15 years, which supports our strong sense of community. We look forward to celebrating our 20th anniversary in the coming years.

Nothing says summer like water play at CHMS!🌤️ 🌊

Our toddlers spent the morning at the water table, scooping, pouring, and splashing alongside their Montessori Guides. This kind of hands-on water play giving little hands plenty of practice with coordination and independence.

Childhood is full of exciting milestones, and each of them helps build confidence for what comes next. 🚲💙
At CHMS, children are encouraged to explore the world around them, take on new challenges, and develop independence through hands-on experiences both in and out of the classroom. Our authentic Montessori environment supports each child as they grow, learn, and discover what they are capable of.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year and invite families to schedule a tour to learn more about our Arlington and Alexandria campuses.

We are still thinking about the 4th of July over here at CHMS Arlington!

We had such a fun Fourth of July celebration with our toddlers and preschoolers. Our students decorated their own festive hats, coloring in stars and stripes and adding their own creative touches before participating in our annual 4th of July Parade.

Choosing colors and making each hat their own is the kind of hands-on, fine-motor work that builds focus and independence, and they were so proud to wear what they made.

After the parade, we cooled off with popsicles in the shade, a perfect way to wrap up a morning full of red, white, and blue. 🎆

Every graduate carries something different with them as they leave CHMS: a favorite classroom memory, a cherished friendship, a newfound confidence, or a love of learning that will continue to grow for years to come.
As they begin their next adventure, we hope they always remember how capable, curious, and resilient they are. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and grateful to have been a part of these early years of learning and growth.

One of the greatest joys of being part of the CHMS community is watching families grow together throughout their Montessori journey.

Years ago, we celebrated an older sibling’s graduation from CHMS. This year, we had the privilege of celebrating their younger sibling reaching that same milestone. Moments like these remind us just how fortunate we are to watch our CHMS families blossom over the years.

Moments like these are at the heart of what makes our community so special. When families choose CHMS for more than one child, they often stay with us for many years, and that continuity creates lasting relationships and a strong community of children and families who grow alongside one another.

A celebration years in the making. 🎓

Recently we gathered with families, students, and guides to celebrate our very first Alexandria graduating class, a moment that goes down in CHMS history. From their first days in the classroom to this special milestone, our graduates have grown in confidence, independence, curiosity, and kindness.

As this inaugural class moves on, some are heading off to elementary school while others will continue with us in our Kindergarten program. While we will miss seeing their familiar faces each day, we are excited for all that lies ahead.

Congratulations to the CHMS Alexandria Class of 2026. We are so proud of you!💙
